Ching Hwang Lim (born 6 March 1996) is a sportsperson currently representing Singapore, who formerly represented Malaysia, in swimming. He was born in Selangor, Malaysia. He committed to Ohio State University [1] and holds a Malaysian record in swimming which was set in July 2016. [2] [3] [4]
Lim Ching Hwang was born and raised in Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. He is one of two siblings and is of Overseas Chinese descent. Lim's early years of education were spent at a local primary school, SJK(C) Lick Hung.
Lim achieved Malaysia's first-ever gold medal at the 2013 Asian Youth Games in the 200m freestyle event with a time of 1:50.81. [5]

On 9 February 2021, Lim Ching Hwang was given eight weeks in jail for defaulting on Singaporean National Service (NS). [8] Lim was given Singapore permanent residency status under the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme in March 2014, at the age of 18, and became subject to the requirements of the Enlistment Act. He received a registration notice in May 2014 asking him to register for NS.
However, he had pursued university studies in the United States from September 2014 onwards. Lim registered for NS in May 2014 and applied for deferment and left the country in July 2014. He returned to Singapore in June 2018 after completing his studies and enlisted in NS in April 2019 and completed it in February 2021.
Lim said he is "deeply regretful" of the actions he committed "as a boy", adding that he has "come back to face the consequences as a man".

He was the holder of 16 Hong Kong national swimming records.
Joseph Isaac Schooling is a Singaporean professional swimmer who specialises in butterfly, freestyle and medley events. He was the gold medalist in the 100m butterfly at the 2016 Olympics, achieving Singapore's first ever Olympic gold medal. His winning time of 50.39s broke multiple records at the National, Southeast Asian, Asian and Olympic levels.
Quah Zheng Wen is a Singaporean professional swimmer who specialises in individual medley, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle events.
Daniel Fox is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. He won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics being awarded a bronze most recently in the 200m Freestyle S14. He has won gold at the Global Games, the Arafura Games, World Championships, Can-Am Championships, Para Pan Pacific Championships, EnergyAustralia Championships and the Commonwealth Games. Daniel also holds the world record for the 50m freestyle (24.77) and the 100m freestyle record (53.50) in the S14 classification. Daniel Fox is also the Australian ambassador for the INAS Global Games in 2019.
Lew Yih Wey is a Malaysian swimmer, who specialised in long-distance freestyle, backstroke, and individual medley events. She represented her nation Malaysia at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has won a career total of four medals in a major international competition, spanning the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Wan Azlan bin Wan Ali Abdullah is a retired Malaysian swimmer, who specialised in freestyle and in individual medley events. He is a two-time Olympian, and a gold medalist at the Southeast Asian Games (1997). While studying in the United States, Abdullah trained for the Pine Crest Swim Club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida under his full-time coach David López-Zubero, a bronze medalist for Spain at the 1980 Summer Olympics. During his college career, Abdullah swam for the University of Georgia's Georgia Bulldogs swimming and diving team under head coach Jack Bauerle.
Sia Wai Yen is a Malaysian swimmer who specialised in long-distance freestyle and individual medley events. At the age of 16 she represented Malaysia at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She won four medals in two editions of the Southeast Asian Games, and later became a top 8 finalist at the 2002 Asian Games.

On 28 June 2016, a bar located in Puchong, Selangor, Malaysia, was attacked by two people who threw a grenade into the bar while 20 customers were watching the UEFA Euro 2016 match between Italy and Spain. The attack injured eight people, including one foreigner from China. The attackers left the scene on a motorcycle but were subsequently arrested. The attack was described as the first ever Islamic terror attack against the country perpetrated by Malaysians militants linked to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Lionel Khoo is a Singaporean swimmer. In 2015, Khoo won silver in the men's 200m breaststroke and gold in the 4 × 100 m medley relay at the SEA Games. In October 2016, he set a new national 200m breaststroke record at the Fina/airweave Swimming World Cup held at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, Singapore. Finishing fifth with a record of 2:11.80, he rewrote the previous record of 2:16.19 set at the 2016 ASEAN University Games in July.
