The Asian Youth Games, also known as AYG, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia. The Games are described as the second largest continental multi-sport event after the Asian Games.

Contents

The creation of the AYG was a part of Singapore's bid to host the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. It was intended to show Singapore's organisational capabilities and infrastructure. [1]

In its history, two nations have hosted the Asian Youth Games. Forty-five nations have participated in the Games.

The last Games was held in Nanjing, China from 16 to 24 August 2013 and the next games will be held in Bahrain in 2025. [2] [3]

The 2026 Asian Games (2026年アジア競技大会), also known as 20th Asian Games (第20回アジア競技大会) and Aichi-Nagoya 2026 (愛知/名古屋2026), will be a multi-sport event celebrated around the Aichi Prefecture in Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026. The prefecture capital Nagoya will be the epicenter of the events. Nagoya will be the third Japanese city to host the Asian Games, after Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. The event is set to return to its traditional 4-year cycle, after the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China were postponed to 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bids for the Asian Games is the process where National Olympic Committees select from within their national territory cities to put forward bids to host an Asian Games.

Hafizullah Wali Rahimi has been serving as president of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan since April 2018. In September 2021, Rahimi left Afghanistan after the Taliban's return to power. He is still recognized as the Committee's president in exile. He is of Tajik ethnicity. Rahimi is also a member of the Peace Through Sport Committee.

This will be the second time that Harbin will host the event and the third time China has hosted the Asian Winter Games.
