The Central African Games was an international multi-sport event for countries within Central Africa. It was held on three occasions: in 1976 in Libreville, Gabon, in 1981 in Luanda, Angola, and finally in 1987 in Brazzaville, People's Republic of the Congo. [1] [2]
Between 1962 and 1964, was helds the Jeux de la Coupe des Tropiques. In 1972, a Central African Cup competition had been organised in Brazzaville, featuring a number of sporting events, and this proved to be a precursor to the Central African Games, which was first held four years later.
The first Games were designed as a buildup to the 1976 Summer Olympics, [3] but this proved to be the year's highlight for many of the athletes as many African countries boycotted the Olympics in protest of New Zealand's sporting links with Apartheid-era South Africa. [4]
Events at the final edition of the Games in 1987 acted as qualifiers for the 1987 All-Africa Games in some cases. [3]

The Republic of the Congo is located in the western part of central Africa, on the Equator. Congo has several important ports. The Republic of the Congo covers an area of 342,000 km², of which 341,500 km² is land while 500 km² is water. Congo claims 200 nautical miles (370 km) of territorial sea.
The Gabon national football team represents Gabon in men's international football. The team's nickname is The Panthers and it is governed by the Gabonese Football Federation. They have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but have qualified eight times for the Africa Cup of Nations. Gabon is a member of both FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Eremospatha is a genus of climbing flowering plants in the palm family found in tropical Africa. These rattans are uncommon in cultivation and poorly understood by taxonomists. Closely related to Laccosperma, they are differentiated by the near complete absence of bracts and bracteoles. The name is from Greek meaning "without a spathe".

The Central African Athletics Championships are an international athletics competition between countries in Central Africa. First held in 1976, it has been held sporadically since then, with the most recent edition being the ninth championships in 2015.
