Football is the most popular sport in Iran, with wrestling and volleyball as close contenders. Football has been a part of life for Iranians for many decades now and is played in schools, streets, and football clubs nationwide.
Karaj is the capital of Alborz Province, Iran, and effectively a satellite city of Tehran. Although the county hosts a population around 1.97 million, as recorded in the 2016 census, most of the 1,419 km2 (548 sq mi) county is rugged mountain. The urban area is the fourth-largest in Iran, after Tehran, Mashhad, and Isfahan. Eshtehard County and Fardis County were split off from Karaj county since the previous census.
Many sports in Iran are both traditional and modern. Tehran, for example, was the first city in West Asia to host the Asian Games in 1974, and continues to host and participate in major international sporting events to this day. Freestyle wrestling has been traditionally regarded as Iran's national sport, however today, football is the most popular sport in Iran. Because of economic sanctions, the annual government's budget for sport was about $80 million in 2010 or about $1 per person.
IFIUS was a democratic non profit organisation whose main objective was to organise the yearly World Interuniversity Games, in which teams of students from different Universities and Colleges worldwide competed in different sport competitions. In 2011, IFIUS was disbanded and integrated inside Panathlon.
Women's football in Iran is very popular. Football has been a part of life for Iranians for many decades now and is played in schools, alleys, streets and football clubs nationwide. Women in Iran are increasingly inclined to play football, and with this increasing popularity it is only a matter of time before a more secure infrastructure develops. The Iran women's national football team competes internationally.

The 2nd Islamic Solidarity Games were going to be an international sporting event scheduled to be held in Iran on 9–25 April 2010. The Games were cancelled following a dispute between the host country and Saudi Arabia.

Niloofar Ardalan, also known as Niloofar Ardallani, is an Iranian coach and former player of football and futsal who played in the Iranian women's national football team and the Iranian women's national futsal team and was captain in both teams. She played for the Rah Ahan Football Club team as well as the Futsal Clubs teams of Tejarat Khane Bandar Abbas, Persepolis, and the Islamic Azad University of Tehran.

Ali Targholizadeh is an Iranian professional futsal director, Asian Football Confederation's head of technical and Futsal department, and former clubs president in the leagues of Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran as well as former FIFA and AFC, football and futsal instructor. For over 15 years, Targholizadeh has played in many Iranian football clubs such as Taj F.C. (Persian:تاج), which is known as Esteghlal F.C. today, Bank Melli F.C., Karegaran F.C. (Persian:کارگران), Mazda F.C. (Persian:مزدا), Keshavarz F.C. (Persian:کشاورز) and Saazmaneh Goosht F.C.. In his early life in Iran, he has also managed teams such as Kosar F.C. (Persian:کوثر), Azerbaijan F.C. (Persian:آذربایجان) and Keshavarz F.C. (Persian:کشاورز). Targholizadeh has been a member of Asian Football Confederation since 2004 and is known as one of the oldest associates in the Asian House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Islamic Azad University, Shahr-e-Qods Branch is a comprehensive branch of Islamic Azad University in Qods, Tehran Province, Iran. It is also the fourth out of ten of the best non-profit universities in Iran. It has 4 faculties, 2 research centers and one research and science campus near the main campus, offering up to 300 disciplines at undergraduate, graduate and doctorate levels with over 35,000 students. The academic staff includes 180 faculty members and about 900 visiting professors.
Mahmoud Afshardoust is the secretary general of the Iranian Volleyball Federation, a former player and coach of the Iran men's national volleyball team. Afshardoust was invited to the national youth team of Iran in 1991, and in 1993 and 1994 he was the captain of the national youth team. In 1994, he became the most valuable (MVP) youth player in Asia. He was invited to the senior national team in 1995, and was in the senior national team until September 2003, won a silver medal in the 2002 Asian Games, and a bronze medal in the 2003 Asian Championship (China). Afshardoust was the coach of the Iranian national team from 2008 to 2010. He won a silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, and a silver medal at the 2009 Asian Championships in the Philippines. He was introduced as the Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Iran, and resigned from this position in April 2016.
Peykan Tehran Futsal Team is an Iranian futsal team that is currently in the Iranian Women's Futsal Premier League; This team bought the points of Rahyab Gostar Tehran team to participate in the competitions of the Women's Futsal Premier League in the 2021 season.
Iranian Women's Futsal Premier League 2021 The 17th season of the Women's Futsal Premier League is the highest level of the Iranian Women's Futsal Premier League, which started with the presence of 14 teams on November 28, 2021, by the decision of the board members. The new season of the Women's Futsal Premier League will be carried out with the new instructions by the managers of the Futsal League organization.
