Limelight Records was a jazz record label and subsidiary of Mercury Records started in 1962. The catalogue included music by Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Hines, Milt Jackson, Gerry Mulligan, and Oscar Peterson. [1]

Contents

Originally headed by Quincy Jones, its activities were directed by the producer Jack Tracy. Though mainly a jazz label, it also released rock, experimental, electronic, and Indian music.

The label's masters are now controlled by Verve Records and The Island Def Jam Music Group, which has reissued some of the Limelight releases on CD.

Elektra/Musician was a jazz record label founded as a subsidiary of Elektra Records in 1982. The label was headed by Bruce Lundvall and released its first batch of albums on February 12, 1982. The label ceased when Lundvall left Elektra to start EMI's Manhattan Records in 1984. Elektra unsuccessfully attempted to revive the Elektra/Musician label in the late 1980s with acts such as the Gipsy Kings, but the label was eventually absorbed by Nonesuch Records, which also absorbed the label's earlier iteration in 1984.

Doctor Jazz Records was established by Bob Thiele in 1983 to release new material, historical recordings, and albums previously released on his Flying Dutchman, Signature, Hanover, Amsterdam and Bob Thiele Music labels. Some of these releases had Signature labels. The label ceased to release albums in 1987 and Thiele established Red Baron Records in 1991.
