Lin Yuwei (born 2 May 1999) is a Chinese track and field athlete who competes in the 100 metres hurdles. In 2023, she won the gold medal for the 100m hurdles event at the 2022 Asian Games, in Hangzhou. [1]

Career

Born in Youxi County, Lin was first selected for the prestigious Fujian Provincial Team in November 2014. She won the 100m and 200m at the Fujian Provincial Games in 2014. She would go on to finish runner-up in the 100 metres hurdles at the 2018 National Youth Championship. She then won the 100m hurdles title at the National University Games in 2019. She won gold at the National Games in 2021, running a personal best time of 12.85 seconds for the 100m hurdles. She won gold in the 60m hurdles championship at the 2023 National Indoor Track and Field Championships. She then had a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles at the National Track and Field Championship in 2023, clocking a time of 12.97 seconds [ citation needed ]

Lin won gold at the delayed 2022 Asian Games in October 2023, running a time of 12.74 seconds for the 100 metres hurdles. [2] [3] [4] [5]

She finished second to Wu Yanni in the 110m hurdles at the Chinese Athletics Championships in June 2024. [6] She was named in the Chinese team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. [7]

Personal life

She attends East China Normal University in Shanghai. [8] Her younger sister Lin Yuxi has also competed in athletics at national level. [9]

Dedeh Erawati is an Indonesian sprint hurdler. She is a four-time medalist and two-time defending champion at the SEA Games. She won the bronze medal at the 2009 Asian Athletics Championships in Guangzhou, China, with a time of 13.32 seconds, finishing behind Japan's Asuka Terada and China's Sun Yawei, who claimed the gold in the hurdles. She also set both her personal best and national record of 13.18 seconds at the 2012 Taiwan Open in Taipei, Taiwan.

She is the third Indian woman to ever qualify for the Women's 100 metres event at the Summer Olympic Games. In 2018, Chand clinched silver in women's 100m at the Jakarta Asian Games. It was India's first medal in this event since 1998. Moreover, In 2019, she became the first Indian sprinter to win gold at the Universiade, clocking 11.32 seconds in the 100 m race.

She is the current Commonwealth and African champion in the 100 m hurdles, as well as the meet record holder in those two competitions. Amusan became the first ever Nigerian world champion and world record holder in an athletics event when she won the 2022 World Championships 100 m hurdles gold medal, setting the current world record of 12.12 seconds (+0.9 m/s) in the semi-final, followed up by a 12.06 seconds (+2.5 m/s) in the final. She won back-to-back Commonwealth and African titles in 2018 and 2022 in the 100 m hurdles and is also a two-time African Games champion. Emi Akimoto is a Japanese former track and field athlete who specialised in the 100 metres hurdles. She was the gold medallist in the event at the Asian Athletics Championships three times consecutively from 1979 to 1983, breaking the championship record each time. She won two gold medals at the Asian Games in 1982, running in the hurdles and 4×100 metres relay.

Jyothi Yarraji is an Indian track and field athlete from Andhra Pradesh. She specializes in 100 metre hurdles and holds the Indian national record. She broke the long-standing record by Anuradha Biswal on 10 May 2022 clocking 13.23s. She has broken the record multiple times ever since.

Vithya Ramraj is an Indian athlete from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She is a three-time National champion. She competes in 100m and 400m hurdles and 400 metres. On 2 October 2023 at the 2022 Asian Games, she equalled the Indian national record of 55.42s in 400m hurdles set by P. T. Usha at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. She won the 400m hurdles bronze at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on October 3.
