Southeast Asia, also spelled South East Asia and South-East Asia, and also known as Southeastern Asia, south-eastern Asia or SEA, is the geographical south-eastern region of Asia, consisting of the regions that are situated south of Mainland China, east of the Indian subcontinent, and north of Australia. Southeast Asia is bordered to the north by East Asia, to the west by South Asia and the Bay of Bengal, to the east by Oceania and the Pacific Ocean, and to the south by Australia and the Indian Ocean. Apart from the British Indian Ocean Territory and two out of 26 atolls of Maldives in South Asia, Maritime Southeast Asia is the only other subregion of Asia that lies partly within the Southern Hemisphere. Mainland Southeast Asia is completely in the Northern Hemisphere. East Timor and the southern portion of Indonesia are the only parts that are south of the Equator.
The Southeast Asian Games, also known as the SEA Games, is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. It was Indonesia's fourth time to host the Southeast Asian Games, and its first since 1997. Previously, Indonesia also hosted in 1979 and 1987. The capital city of Jakarta hosted all three of the previous Games prior to this. Palembang became the third SEA Games non-capital host city, after Chiang Mai (1995) and Nakhon Ratchasima (2007), both in Thailand. The 2019 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 30th Southeast Asian Games, or the 30th SEA Games, and commonly known as Philippines 2019, was the 30th edition of the Southeast Asian Games, a biennial regional multi-sport event which was held in the Philippines from 30 November to 11 December 2019. However, due to a narrow calendar, some sports started before the opening ceremony as early as November 24.

The Philippines first sent athletes to the Southeast Asian Games in 1977. Prior to 1977, the Southeast Asian Games were known as the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games. The country has hosted the games four times; in 1981, 1991, 2005, and 2019. The country's best finish at the games happened twice, both of them which they hosted: in 2005 finishing as overall champions of the games with Thailand and Vietnam finishing second and third in the overall medal standings. and in 2019 in which they beat their own 2005 medal record. Their best finish in the games, excluding editions hosted by the Philippines, was at the 1983 edition where they finish second behind Indonesia.
The Philippine national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of the Philippines. The team is controlled by the Federation of Ice Hockey League (FIHL) and has been associate member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The Philippines is currently not ranked in the IIHF World Ranking and have never entered in any World Championship tournaments or at any Olympic Games, but have played in the Challenge Cup of Asia, a regional tournament for lower-tier hockey nations in Asia.
Esports at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines was held at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila from 5 to 10 December 2019. It was the first esports contest as a medal event in a multi-sport competition sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee after the discipline featured as a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Obstacle racing was among the sports contested at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. Six obstacle course racing events were featured: two events each for 100 meters with 10 obstacles, 400 meters with 12 obstacles and 5 km with 20 obstacles. These were the first obstacle course racing events in Games recognised by the International Olympic Committee and under regulation of World OCR, the Fédération Internationale de Sport d'Obstacles.

Softball at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was held at the Clark International Sports Complex in Mabalacat, Pampanga, the Philippines from 2 to 8 December 2019. Both competitions for men and women were held.

Taekwondo competitions at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games were held from 7 to 9 December 2019 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila, Philippines.
Judo competitions at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games were held at the Laus Group Event Center from 4 to 7 December 2019.
The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games were held on December 5 to 8 at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila.
