Al-Duhail Sports Club is a Qatari professional football club based in Doha. The club was formed in 2009 as Lekhwiya Sports Club, and played their first competitive match in 2009, The club was renamed on April 10, 2017, it was decided to merge the two clubs, Lekhwiya and El Jaish SC into one entity under the name Al-Duhail Sports Club starting from the new season. [1] [2] The club has won a total of 56 major trophies, including the national championship 38 times also won the Emir of Qatar Cup 18 times, the Qatar Cup (ex) Crown Prince Cup 9 times, and the Sheikh Jassim Cup 6 times. The club has also never been out of the top division of Qatari football since his rise in the 2009–10 season.

  1. The league was halted on 16 March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic in Qatar, [12] then later resumed on 24 July 2020. [13]

The team won the Qatargas League prior to 2011, but were not eligible for promotion and as a result were not declared as the champions of the league. It was promoted to the first division, the Stars League, the first year after it was made eligible.

In the 2021–22 season, Al Sadd SC is competing in the Qatar Stars League for the 49th season, as well as the Emir of Qatar Cup and the Champions League. On November 3, after the match against Al-Duhail, Xavi left the club to be the new coach of FC Barcelona six years after his departure and this is after an agreement was reached between the two clubs.

In the 2020–21 season, Al-Duhail is competing in the Qatar Stars League for the 10th season, as well as the Emir of Qatar Cup and the Champions League.

In the 2021–22 season, Al-Duhail is competing in the Qatar Stars League for the 11th season, as well as the Emir of Qatar Cup and the Champions League.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Al-Duhail SC in international football competitions</span> Football club

Al-Duhail SC, a Qatari professional association football club, has gained entry to Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions on several occasions. They have represented Qatar in the Champions League on ten occasions and FIFA Club World Cup on one occasion.

The fixture between Al-Duhail and Al Sadd is a local derby in Doha, Qatar and a fierce rivalry. The derby does not have a common name. Since the establishment of Al-Duhail, the matches between the two teams have become the most important in Qatar. The two teams have won the Qatar Stars League title 22 times, the Emir of Qatar Cup 21 times, the Qatar Cup (ex) Crown Prince Cup 11 times, and Sheikh Jassim Cup 17 times. On the continental level Al Sadd won the AFC Champions League twice and the Arab Champions League once.
