"Circle of Life" is a song from The Walt Disney Company 1994 animated film The Lion King. Composed by English musician Elton John, with lyrics by Tim Rice, the song was performed by Carmen Twillie and Lebo M. as the film's opening song. In an interview, Rice said he was amazed at the speed with which John composed: "I gave him the lyrics at the beginning of the session at about two in the afternoon. By half-past three, he'd finished writing and recording a stunning demo." Elton John sang a pop version of the song with the London Community Gospel Choir, which was included in the film's soundtrack and made into a music video.

The European Dance Radio Chart was a weekly chart compiled by pan-European magazine Music & Media. After dance music had played a more dominant role on the magazine's Eurochart Hot 100 in the beginning of the 1990s, the new chart was launched on 28 September 1991. Based on a weighted-scoring system, it was compiled on the basis of playlists of European stations programming various styles of dance music, including hip hop/rap, R&B and swingbeat, for the 15-30 year-olds, fulltime or during specific dayparts. The first number one single on the EDR Chart was "Gett Off" by Prince.
