East Africa played its first match in 1951 and was an associate member of the ICC from 1966 to 1989.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from Australia, England and South Africa. It was renamed as the International Cricket Conference in 1965, and took up its current name in 1987. The ICC has its headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Dhoni is a right-handed wicket-keeper batsman known for his aggressive captaincy and his ability to finish matches in tight situations. He scored over 10,000 runs in One Day Internationals and is considered one of the best finishers in the game. He is also one of the greatest wicket-keepers and captains in the history of cricket.

The East Africa cricket team was a team representing the countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and later Zambia. Their first game was against Rhodesia in 1951. East Africa appeared in the 1975 World Cup and the 1979, 1982 and 1986 ICC Trophies. In the last two of these Kenya was represented in its own right, so that East Africa was effectively a Ugandan, Tanzanian and Zambian team.
