Its headquarters are in Alhambra, California. The primary mission of the Diocese of Western America is to preserve and foster the faith, heritage, traditions, and culture, and religious and national values of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and to provide spiritual guidance to more than 600,000 Serbian-Americans in almost 50 churches, parishes, monasteries and children's summer camps in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. It also covers the territory of Mexico.

The Glinsk Hermitage is a stavropegial monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church located in the village of Sosnivka, near the Russian border. In the 19th and early 20th centuries it was a major spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church, and many of its elders have been recently canonized as saints. The monastery is under the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the diocese of Konotop and Hlukhiv.

St. Nilus Skete, founded in 1999, is a women's monastic institution of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America, under the omophorion of Bishop Maksim Vasiljević of the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Western America. It is located on Nelson Island near Ouzinkie in Alaska, less than an hour's boat ride from Kodiak Island. St. Nilus Skete is the most remote of all 80 Orthodox Christian monasteries in North America. Their 50-acre island is inhabited only by the monastics. In the winter months when the ocean becomes rough, the nuns on St. Nilus Island can be left isolated from the rest of civilization for days and weeks at a time.
Geronda Ephraim of Arizona also known as Geronda Ephraim of Philotheou Monastery on Mount Athos, was born in Greece on June 24, 1928 – and died in Arizona, USA on December 7, 2019. He was a revered Greek Orthodox Hieromonk, an Athonite Elder, and Archimandrite in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America under the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople. He became well known for his extensive spiritual guidance in Greece and especially in America by spreading Athonite monasticism and the Faith in America. He guided thousands of souls in confession, monastics and lay-people, and taught the Jesus Prayer "Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me!" His spiritual father is Saint Iosif (Joseph) the Hesychast, canonized by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Saint Joseph the Hesychast was a Greek Orthodox monk and elder who led a small group of monks at Mount Athos. He was canonized as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 2020. His annual feast is celebrated on August 16.
Elder Joseph of Vatopedi was a Greek Cypriot Orthodox Christian monk and elder. He was one of the primary disciples of St. Joseph the Hesychast at Mount Athos. Joseph was also known as the spiritual father of Ephraim of Vatopedi, the current abbot of Vatopedi Monastery.
Elder Ephraim of Vatopedi is a Greek Cypriot Orthodox Christian hieromonk and archimandrite. He is currently Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi at Mount Athos.
