He is the son of a notable scientist and engineer Ratip Berker, who was deceased on 17 October 1997. His wife, Bedia Erim Berker is a professor of chemistry at Istanbul Technical University, and one of his sons, Selim Berker is a professor of epistemology in the department of philosophy at Harvard University and his other son, Ratip Emin Berker is currently a junior at Harvard.

Maslak is one of the main business districts of Sarıyer, Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European side of the city. It was formerly an exclave of the municipality of Şişli, though being far north and actually closer to the municipalities of Sarıyer and Beşiktaş. Therefore, a legislation was approved by the Interior Commission of the Turkish Parliament on October 18, 2012, that shifted the jurisdiction of the Maslak district from Şişli to Sarıyer.

In 1926, the “Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering” was founded as part of the Science Faculty of Istanbul University. In 1934, the institute was bound to “Yüksek Mühendis Mektebi”, today’s Istanbul Technical University, as the Electro-Mechanic Division, which was the start of Department of Electrical Engineering. The first students of this division graduated in 1936. Today, the faculty has three departments: Power engineering, Electronics and telecommunications engineering, Control engineering

ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is a faculty of the Istanbul Technical University, ITU.

The ITU Mustafa Inan Library was a printing house was established in 1795 at the first engineering school ever to be opened in Halıcıoğlu under the name of Mühendishane-i Berri Hümayun. The books published here constituted the core of the ITU Library. ITU libraries, located in Maslak campus, Istanbul, have approximately 500,000 volumes of books periodicals, and dissertations. The number of subscription periodicals is 1,300. A part of the library is open 7 day/24 hours. There are libraries in other campuses of ITU: Ratip Berker Library in School of Mechanical engineering, Macka library, Taskisla library and Tuzla library. In addition to these general purpose libraries there is a music library in Macka campus for Turkish Music State Conservatory.

ITU School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, founded in 1983, is the 11th school of Istanbul Technical University. Three departments were engaged to the faculty, which are Aeronautical Engineering, Astronautical engineering, and Meteorological Engineering. Aeronautical Engineering Department was established as a branch training aeronautical engineers in the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in 1941, and then in 1944 became a department of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty. Meteorological Engineering Department was established in 1953 in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. It is the only Meteorological Engineering department in Turkey.

Istanbul Technical University's Science Center, located in Taskisla campus in the district of Taksim, Istanbul, is a center which encourages children to interact with exhibits. It opened in November 2007. The exhibition contains exhibits related to mechanics, electricity and magnetism, mathematics, dna, space and general physics.

The Control and Automation Student Society is a non-profit, non-governmental, non-political student society established in 2004, formed by ITU, mostly from Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering students. It has more than 600 members in both Electrical and Electronics Faculty as well as Astronautics and Aeronautics Faculty, Science and Letters Faculty and others.

Mehmet Karaca was the rector of Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He was born in Istanbul on 17 September 1957. He is a member of the Department of Geology and the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences at İstanbul Technical University. He is also head of Climate and Marine Sciences Group at Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences. Following his graduation from Pertevniyal High School in Istanbul, He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at the Department of Meteorology in the Faculty of Basic Sciences at ITU, in 1979 and 1981 respectively. He earned another M.S. degree at Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned a Ph.D. degree at Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1990.

Muhammed Şahin is a Turkish academic. He is the former rector) of Istanbul Technical University (2008-2012), and the founding rector of MEF University.

İTÜ TV is the first Turkish television station. The first Turkish television broadcast occurred on July 9, 1952, from a station at Istanbul Technical University's electrical engineering department. Weekly two-hour broadcasts from ITU continued on an experimental basis, but by 1957 there were still fewer than 200 television receivers in Istanbul. ITU broadcasts continued until 1970, and in 1971 ITU's facilities and equipment were ordered to be transferred to the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, and ITU TV was closed down forever. By 1991, ITU TV was replaced by a new channel called Show TV.

İTÜ—Ayazağa is an underground rapid transit station on the M2 line of the Istanbul Metro. It is located under Büyükdere Avenue in Maslak, the second largest financial district in Istanbul after Levent. The station services the Istanbul Technical University or İTÜ as well as the Maslak financial district. İ.T.Ü.-Ayazağa has an island platform serviced by two tracks. The station was opened on 31 January 2009 as part of the northern extension of the M2 line.

Bedri Karafakioğlu was a Turkish assassinated academic and former Rector of Istanbul Technical University

UBAKUSAT was a Turkish nanosatellite that was developed by Istanbul Technical University. It was launched into space on board a Falcon-9 rocket in April 2018 and was deployed into its orbit from the International Space Station in May 2018. It was built as a technology demonstration and earth observation satellite to provide voice communications for amateur radio stations around the world. It carried an experimental card, TAMSAT Simplesat, which allowed scientists to test its accuracy of measuring radiation from space. It was the fifth satellite to be built by students of Istanbul Technical University.
