Last updated

List of current U.S. flagged cruise ships and river boats in the United States. Due to the Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886, these are the only overnight passenger ships currently eligible to sail solely between U.S. ports without the need for a foreign port stopover.

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of aircraft carriers and one of two providers of submarines for the United States Navy. Founded as the Chesapeake Dry Dock and Construction Co. in 1886, Newport News Shipbuilding has built more than 800 ships, including both naval and commercial ships. Located in the city of Newport News, its facilities span more than 550 acres (2.2 km2).

<i>Pride of America</i> Cruise ship

MS Pride of America is a cruise ship operated by NCL America, a division of Norwegian Cruise Lines, to sail itineraries in the Hawaiian Islands. Construction of the ship began in 2000 in the United States as part of a plan for a US-built and US-flagged cruise ship under Project America, but the project failed and she was eventually purchased by Norwegian Cruise Lines and completed in Germany. She was inaugurated in 2005, and was the first new U.S. flagged, deep water cruise ship in nearly fifty years since the SS Argentina of 1958.

American Cruise Lines, Inc. is the largest river and small-ship cruise line in the U.S.A. with its headquarters in Guilford, Connecticut, United States. The Line operates nineteen small U.S. flagged cruise ships along the Eastern Seaboard and Western Seaboard as well as the Mississippi, Ohio, Cumberland, and Tennessee Rivers and the Columbia-Snake river system in the United States.

RMS <i>Empress of Britain</i> (1955)

Empress of Britain was a transatlantic ocean liner built by Fairfield Shipbuilding at Govan on the Clyde in Scotland in 1955-1956 for Canadian Pacific Steamships (CP). This ship — the third of three CP vessels to be named Empress of Britain — regularly traversed the trans-Atlantic route between Canada and Europe until 1964, completing 123 voyages under the Canadian Pacific flag.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jeffboat</span> American inland shipyard

Jeffboat was a shipyard in Jeffersonville, Indiana founded by James Howard in 1834, a builder of steamboats. The company was owned by the Howard family until it was sold leading up to World War II. Following the war, it became known as the Jeffersonville Boat and Machine Company and later changed its name to Jeffboat, the more commonly used short form of its name. The company was the largest inland shipbuilder in the United States and the second-largest builder of barges before it closed in 2018.

SS <i>The Emerald</i> American cruise ship

SS The Emerald was a cruise ship owned by Louis Cruise Lines. She was built in 1958 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock company in Newport News, Virginia, United States, for the Grace Line, as the ocean liner Santa Rosa. Between 1992 and 1995, she sailed for Regency Cruises as Regent Rainbow and between 1997 and 2008, she sailed for Thomson Cruises as The Emerald. Before retiring in 2009, she was the last passenger ship built at a U.S. shipyard that was still in active service.

American Empress Paddle-wheel boat

The American Empress is a 360-foot (110 m) diesel-electric powered paddle-wheeler that was formerly operated by Majestic America Line and named the Empress of the North. She was built in 2002 at the Nichols Brothers Boat Builders shipyard on Whidbey Island, in the U.S. state of Washington, for $50 million and debuted as a cruise ship in 2003. She is listed as accommodating 223 guests, and originally cruised Alaska's Inside Passage, the Pacific Northwest, and the Columbia River. While being operated by Majestic America Line, the ship was decorated with a 19th century Russian theme, but with Alaskan touches in the form of carvings and masks.

Luther H. Blount was an American entrepreneur, inventor, and philanthropist. Blount was a shipbuilder and holds 22 patents, most of which are relating to his trade.

<i>Spirit of Glacier Bay</i>

Spirit of Glacier Bay, formerly Spirit of Nantucket and Nantucket Clipper, and now called the Chichagof Dream is a small cruise ship that was owned and operated by Cruise West until 2010. She is 207 feet long, carries up to 102 passengers and approximately 28 crew. It was built in 1984 at Jeffersonville, Indiana for Clipper Cruise Lines by Jeffboat Corporation, and operated on the East Coast of North America, from the Caribbean Sea to the Canadian Maritimes and into the Great Lakes as far as Chicago. In 2006, Nantucket Clipper, along with fleet-mate Yorktown Clipper, was purchased by Seattle-based Cruise West. Nantucket Clipper was renamed Spirit of Nantucket at this time. In 2006 and 2007 she continued operating on her usual routes.

Cruise West was an independent, destination focused small-ship cruise operator based in Seattle, Washington. The line was the largest operator of U.S. flagged cruise vessels with nine currently operating. They were best known for their Alaska cruises but their reach includes destinations all around the Pacific Ocean. Cruise West announced on September 18, 2010, that it is ceasing operations.

American Classic Voyages was an American-based cruise ship holding company cruise line, headquartered in Chicago, that operated between 1993 and 2001. The company attempted to take advantage of federal loans and other incentives to build and grow a US-flagged passenger ship industry. The company traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the ticker symbol "AMCV". The company operated the Delta Steamboat Company, Delta Queen Coastal Voyages, American Hawaii Cruises and United States Lines.

<i>Ocean Voyager</i> Cruise ship built in 2001

Ocean Voyager is a small cruise ship, carrying about 200 passengers. First launched in 2001, she has been operated by four different owners, and was formerly known as Victory I, Saint Laurent, Sea Voyager and Cape May Light, the ship was built in the United States and entered service in 2001.

<i>Queen of the Mississippi</i> (2015 ship)

Queen of the Mississippi, now named American Heritage, is an overnight riverboat owned and operated by American Cruise Lines, currently operating on the Mississippi River. She entered service in spring 2015 and was built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland for overnight river cruising within the continental United States. The vessel accommodates 150 passengers in her 84 staterooms. The vessel is a sister ship to American Pride, which originally carried the Queen of the Mississippi name from 2012 to 2015. There are some differences between the riverboats, like internal arrangement and cabins on the 5th deck. However, both riverboats feature all outward-facing accommodations with private baths, and many cabins also have private furnished balconies. Both Paddlewheels were completely revovated in 2022.

<i>America</i> (2015 ship) Riverboat built for American Cruise Lines

American Splendor, formerly America, is an overnight riverboat built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland for American Cruise Lines (ACL) for overnight river cruising on the Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, and Cumberland rivers in the United States. American Slpendor replaced paddlewheeler American Pride on the Mississippi River in 2016 when that ship was repositioned to the Columbia River. According to American Cruise lines, American Splendor will have "features never seen before on a riverboat". American Splendor is slightly larger than previous ACL riverboats with a 185-passenger capacity. The ship's hull was launched on August 7, 2015, and moved to a basin where construction of the upper decks and outfitting will take place.

<i>SS Argentina</i> (1958) Ocean liner

SS Argentina was an ocean liner launched at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, United States in 1958. The ship was the last ocean liner to be completed in the United States. Sister ship, Brasil had been launched in December 1957. Both ships operated in Moore-McCormack's South American service serving ports on the east coasts of North and South America.

UnCruise Adventures is an American-owned small ship adventure cruise line founded in Everett, Washington. In 2008, the then American Safari Cruises was purchased by the parent company InnerSea Discoveries Alaska Inc. In early 2013 after a fleet expansion, the American Safari Cruises was renamed to Un-Cruise Adventures. In 2016, the company rebranded itself UnCruise Adventures, while also unveiling a new logo. Currently the cruise line operates 9 ships, 8 of which are fully owned, and a majority sailing under the U.S. flag. The cruise liner operates two headquarters, the main headquarters is located in Seattle, Washington and the second located in Juneau, Alaska. It offers small group tours and expedition voyages in destinations ranging from Alaska to the Galápagos Islands.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">West Sea Shipyard</span>

West Sea Shipyard is a shipbuilding company of the Martifer Group, created in 2014 after the extinction of ENVC Shipyard. West Sea is dedicated to the construction of various types of ships, such as cruise ships and offshore patrol vessels. Since 2014 it has built more than 15 ships and repaired more than 50 ships, such as Container ships, Tankers, Platform supply vessels, Cargo ships, Cruise ships, Reefer ships and Tugs.
