Colonel Alfredo Enrique Peralta Azurdia was a Guatemalan military officer and politician who served as the Head of Government from March 1963 to July 1966. He took over the office of the presidency after staging a coup d'état against President Miguel Ydígoras Fuentes, under whom he served as Agriculture (1959–1960) and Defense minister (1961–1963).

Augusto Monterroso Bonilla was a Honduran writer who adopted Guatemalan nationality, known for the ironical and humorous style of his short stories. He is considered an important figure in the Latin American "Boom" generation, and received several awards, including the Prince of Asturias Award in Literature (2000), Miguel Ángel Asturias National Prize in Literature (1997), and Juan Rulfo Award (1996).

Emilio Arenales Catalán was the foreign minister of Guatemala from 1966 to 1969 and the president of the United Nations Twenty-Third General Assembly from 1968 to 1969. He was born and died in Guatemala City.

Comunicaciones Fútbol Club S.A., better known as Comunicaciones F.C. or Comunicaciones, is a professional football club based in Guatemala City. They compete in the Liga Nacional, the top tier of Guatemalan football. One of the most popular and successful football clubs in Guatemala, Comunicaciones have won 31 National Championships, including having won six consecutive, the most of any Guatemalan club team. In addition to their 31 league titles, Comunicaciones have won eight league Cups and ten Supercups. In international competition, Comunicaciones have garnered 2 UNCAF Interclub Cups, one CONCACAF Champion's Cup and one CONCACAF League championship.
