The continental championship for men's basketball teams based in the Americas, a landmass that includes North America and South America, has been played since 1993. From 1946 to 1992, a competition for South American teams was run by FIBA. Historically, different leagues have been organised to determine the continental champions of the American continents. Currently, the Basketball Champions League Americas is the official first-level league.
Teams from the highest level of basketball in the United States, the National Basketball Association (NBA), do not participate in FIBA competitions. Although this league is widely accepted to be of a higher level, FIBA still awards the continental championship title to the BCLA winners.

The listing includes South American championships from 1946 to 1992 and from 2001 to 2007, as there was no competition for teams from North and Central America.

FIBA Americas is responsible for the organization and governance of the major international tournaments in the Americas. It has 44 FIBA Federations and is headquartered in Miami, Florida. The current FIBA Americas President is Carol Callan of the United States.
The Liga Sudamericana de Baloncesto (LSB), or FIBA Liga Sudamericana de Baloncesto, also commonly known as FIBA South American League, is the second-tier level South American professional basketball competition at the club level, with the first-tier level now considered the panamerican competition of the Champions League. Georginho won two NBB championships as well, being named Finals MVP in Franca's 2022 title.
The South American professional club basketball system or South American professional club basketball pyramid is a series of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in South America. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are currently two different competitions on the pyramid – the 1st tier Basketball Champions League Americas, and the 2nd tier FIBA South American League. Sixteen teams from South America competed over three rounds to determine the champion. The defending champions, Guaros de Lara, did not have the opportunity to defend their title, after the Venezuelan Basketball Federation failed to register the team in the competition, alleging financial troubles. Franca of Brazil won their first Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol championship in team history by beating Instituto of Argentina.
David Wayne Jackson Jr. is an American professional basketball player for Franca of Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). A 6 ft 3 in tall combo guard, he played high school basketball in Maryland and North Carolina and attended Gulf Coast Community College in Florida after he failed to academically qualify to play Division I basketball. After two years at Gulf Coast, Jackson transferred to Penn State, where he played his last two years of eligibility. After going undrafted in the 2007 NBA draft he started his professional career in Uruguay with Defensor Sporting. He has earned several accolades while playing in South America, including two MVP awards, multiple all-star selections and an LNB scoring title in 2010. Jackson won the FIBA Intercontinental Cup in 2023 and was named the tournament MVP.
