The 2017 FIBA Americas League was the tenth edition of the top-tier level intercontinental professional club basketball competition in the Americas, the FIBA Americas League. Sixteen teams from across the Americas competed over three rounds, to determine the champion. [1] Brazilian teams were not allowed to compete in the competition, due to the suspension of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation by FIBA, in November 2016. [2]
Guaros de Lara were the defending champions, and they successfully defended their title.

The Leones de Ponce is a professional basketball team based in Ponce, Puerto Rico, actively participating in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league (BSN). Founded in 1946, the team has had significant success in the league, earning a total of fourteen championships. This puts them on par with the Atléticos de San Germán and just two titles short of the record held by the Vaqueros de Bayamón. Their most recent championship was won in 2015, after a final match against the Capitanes de Arecibo.

Reyes was born in New York he has played in the United States American Basketball Association, the Premier Basketball League, the Dominican Republic Liga Nacional de Baloncesto, the Mexico Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional, the Uruguayan Federacion Uruguaya de Basquetbol FUBB, the Australian National Basketball League, and the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Reyes has been a member of the Puerto Rican National Team since 2006.

The FIBA Americas League, officially abbreviated as the LDA, was the premier intercontinental basketball club competition played annually by clubs of the entire Americas. Organized by FIBA Americas, the competition was replaced by the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA) in September 2019. The inaugural season started on 4 December 2007. The first FIBA Americas League also included two teams from the United States, the Miami Tropics, and the PBL All-Stars, which was an All-Star selection team from the Premier Basketball League. However, the NBA is the first-tier competition in the United States, and it is in fact an international league, as it contains also a team from Canada. So teams from the United States and Canada are eligible to play at the competition because they belong to the FIBA Americas region. However, at the pro club level for those two countries, the FIBA Americas League would not be considered the 1st-tier league.

The club currently plays in the Liga Uruguaya de Basketball, the top tier basketball league of Uruguay. Founded in 1944, it participated in most Uruguayan basketball tournaments. The 2022 Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol was the 25th season of the Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol (LSB), the second tier of basketball in South America organised by FIBA Americas. It was the first edition since the 2019 season, after the league had a 3-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season began 30 September 2022 and ended on 4 December 2022 with the Grand Final. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and Grand Final were all hosted in Buenos Aires.
