Palapye is a growing town in Botswana, situated about halfway between Francistown and Gaborone. Over the years its position has made it a convenient stopover on one of Southern Africa's principal north–south rail and road routes.
The FA Challenge Cup, currently known as the Orange FA Cup or Orange Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the premier club football tournament in Botswana. Started in 1968 and first played as the Lions Cup, the tournament is based on the idea of giving lower league and amateur teams a chance to compete with top flight teams. It is based on the English FA Cup, which has become known for "giant killings" (lower league teams defeating top flight.
Botswana Defence Force XI Football Club is a football club from Botswana based in Mogoditshane and playing home games in Gaborone. It is the club of the Botswana Defence Force, being composed mostly of military players. As of 2007, players were eligible to play for the club once they become cadets. In 2016, the club reduced the number of civilian players on the team citing financial concerns.
The Botswana Premier League is the highest level football league in Botswana. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional. Participants in the first edition of the league included Tlokweng Pirates, Notwane, Black Peril, Queens Park Rangers and a team from Ngwaketse district.

Peter James Butler is an English professional football player and coach. As a player, he made more than 450 appearances in the Football League and the Premier League. He then took up coaching, first in England and then in Australia and South-East Asia. He was in charge of the Botswana national team from 2014 until 2017. He is currently the manager of Liberia.
Township Rollers Football Club is a football club based in Gaborone, Botswana. Rollers are also known as Popa, The Blues or Tse Tala, the official nicknames of the club. The club is also often referred to as Mapalastina, a nickname that developed in the 1990s but has never been officially adopted by the club. Rollers is the most successful club in Botswana football history, having won more league titles and cup competitions than any other local side. It enjoys a large support base all over the country and has been called arguably the best-supported team in Botswana.
Maunatlala is a village in Central District of Botswana at the feet of the Tswapong Hills, near the Lotsane River. It is located 65 km (40 mi) east of Palapye and 60 km (37 mi) from the border with South Africa. The population was 4,364 in 2011 census. The village is the site of the Lotsane Dam, which started impounding in January 2012 and supplies drinking water as well as water for irrigation in a 250 hectares horticulture operation near Maunatlala.

Mogakolodi Ngele is a Botswana footballer who currently plays for South African club Chippa United and the Botswana national football team as a midfielder. He joined Bidvest Wits from Mamelodi Sundowns. He was a participant at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. In 2014, he signed a 5-year contract with Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. however, he will stay with his current club until the end of the 2014–15 season. Bidvest Wits then signed him on loan again until the end of the 2016–17 season which Bidvest Wits and Ngele won the Absa Premiership title beating the likes of Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.
Palapye Airport is an airstrip serving Palapye, a city in the Central District of Botswana. The runway is on the southeast side of the town.
Motlakase Power Dynamos are a Botswana football club from Palapye playing in the second division Botswana First Division North.

The 2018–19 Botswana Premier League was the 42nd season of the Botswana Premier League, the top-tier football league in Botswana, since its establishment in 1978. The season started on 18 August 2018. The league drew an average attendance of 1,300 per match.
The 2018–19 Botswana First Division North was the 54th season of the Botswana First Division North football league since its inception in 1966. It was played from October to May instead of the usual August to May due to delays in the conclusion of a television broadcasting deal. TAFIC were crowned champions.
The Central South Regional Football Association Division One League, also known as the CSRFA Division One, is one of the regional leagues that make up the third tier of Botswana football. It is administered by the Central South Regional Football Association and features teams from in and around Mahalapye.
Morupule Wanderers Football Club is a football club based in Palapye. Wanderers is also known as Bafana ba Magala or Wandy-Wandy. It is one of the best known Palapye-based teams.
