Greek cuisine is the cuisine of Greece and the Greek diaspora. In common with many other cuisines of the Mediterranean, it is founded on the triad of wheat, olive oil, and wine. It uses vegetables, olive oil, grains, fish, and meat, including pork, poultry, veal and beef, lamb, rabbit, and goat. Other important ingredients include pasta, cheeses, herbs, lemon juice, olives and olive oil, and yogurt. Bread made of wheat is ubiquitous; other grains, notably barley, are also used, especially for paximathia. Common dessert ingredients include nuts, honey, fruits, sesame, and filo pastries. It continues traditions from Ancient Greek and Byzantine cuisine, while incorporating Asian, Turkish, Balkan, and Italian influences.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">A1 motorway (Greece)</span> Motorway in Greece

The A1 motorway, also known as the Athens–Thessaloniki–Evzonoi (A.Th.E.) motorway, and formerly the Patras–Athens–Thessaloniki–Evzonoi (P.A.Th.E.) motorway, is the 2nd longest motorway in Greece with a length of 550 km. It is the principal north–south road connection in Greece, connecting the country's capital Athens with the regions of Thessaly and Macedonia, as well as the country's second largest city, Thessaloniki. It starts from Neo Faliro in Attica and continues north to reach the Evzonoi border station, on the Greek border with North Macedonia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">P.A.O.K.</span> Greek multi-sports club

PAOK, commonly known as A.C. PAOK, is a major multi-sports club based in Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece. The club has several departments, including football, basketball, volleyball, handball, water polo, swimming, wrestling, ice hockey, and weightlifting. P.A.O.K was founded in April 1926. Because of its crest, it is also known as the "Double-Headed Eagle of the North", in contrast with AEK, the "Double-Headed Eagle of the South". They are one of the most popular Greek sports-clubs with many fans all over the country, and also among the Greek diaspora.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Swiss roll</span> Sponge cake formed in a spiral roll, with filling

A Swiss roll, jelly roll, roll cake, cream roll, roulade or Swiss log or swiss cake —is a type of rolled sponge cake filled with whipped cream, jam, icing, or any type of filling. The origins of the term are unclear; in spite of the name "Swiss roll", the cake is believed to have originated elsewhere in Central Europe, possibly Austria or Slovenia. It appears to have been invented in the nineteenth century, along with Battenberg cake, doughnuts, and Victoria sponge. In the U.S., commercial snack-sized versions of the cake are sold with the brand names Ho Hos, Yodels, Swiss Cake Rolls, and others. A type of roll cake called Yule log is traditionally served at Christmas.

Panionios G.S.S. Football Club, the Pan-Ionian Gymnastics Club of Smyrna, more commonly known as Panionios F.C. or simply Panionios, is a Greek football club based in Nea Smyrni, a suburban town in the Athens agglomeration, Greece. Part of Panionios G.S.S., Panionios F.C. is the oldest Greek football club.

Macedonian cuisine is the cuisine of the region of Macedonia, Greece. Contemporary Greek Macedonian cooking shares much with general Greek, wider Balkan and Mediterranean cuisine, including dishes from the Ottoman past. Specific influences include dishes of the Anatolian Greek, Aromanian and Megleno-Romanian, Slavic, Armenian and Sephardi Jewish population. The mix of the different people inhabiting the region gave the name to the Macedonian salad.

Spyridon-Adonis Georgiadis, commonly known as Adonis Georgiadis, is a Greek politician, author, publisher and former telemarketer. Often described as being on the far right of the political spectrum, he currently serves as Vice President of New Democracy and Minister for Health in the Second Cabinet of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Exarcheia</span> Community in Attica, Greece

Exarcheia is a community in central Athens, Greece close to the historical building of the National Technical University of Athens. Exarcheia took its name from a 19th-century businessman named Exarchos who opened a large general store there. Exarcheia is bordered on the east by Kolonaki and is framed by Patission Street, Panepistimiou Street and Alexandras Avenue. Exarcheia is known for being Athens' historical core of radical political and intellectual activism. Exarcheia is often considered the anarchist quarter of Athens, known for its radical democracy.

Anastasios "Sakis" Rouvas, also known mononymously as Sakis, is a Greek singer, actor, and businessman.

International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Greece, or simply IFPI Greece, is the Greek branch of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and is the official charts provider and recording sales certification body for Greece. The association compiles and publishes a Top 75 album sales chart. The chart is sponsored by Cyta Hellas.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kostas Papanikolaou</span> Greek basketball player (born 1990)

Konstantinos "Kostas" Papanikolaou nicknamed "Air Pap" is a Greek professional basketball player and the team captain for Olympiacos of the Greek Basket League (GBL) and the EuroLeague. Standing at 2.04 m, he plays at the small forward position. He is widely considered among the best defensive players in European basketball.

Athens – Epidaurus Festival is an annual arts festival that takes place in Athens and Epidaurus, from May to October. It is one of the most famous festivals in Greece.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Frappé coffee</span> Greek iced coffee drink

A frappé coffee, cold coffee, Greek frappé, or just frappé is a Greek iced coffee drink generally made from spray-dried instant coffee, water, sugar, and milk. The word is often written frappe. The frappé was invented in 1957 in Thessaloniki through experimentation by Dimitris Vakondios, a Nescafe representative. Frappés are among the most popular forms of coffee in Greece and Cyprus and have become a hallmark of postwar outdoor Greek coffee culture.

Olympiacos Women's Water Polo Club is the women's water polo department of the major Greek multi-sport club Olympiacos, based in Piraeus. The department was founded in 1988 and they play their games at the 1000-seated Papastrateio "Petros Kapagerof" Pool in Piraeus.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Aikaterini Nikolaidou</span> Greek rower (born 1992)

Aikaterini "Katerina" Nikolaidou is a Greek rower. Nikolaidou represented Greece, along with Sofia Asoumanaki at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, finishing in the 4th place. She also won a silver medal, in the lightweight single sculls at the 2013 World Rowing Championships and 2014 World Rowing Championships, and in the in the lightweight double sculls along with Sofia Asoumanaki at the 2015 World Rowing Championships. She won the gold medal in the lightweight single sculls at the 2014 European Champion and 2013 European Champion. In 2018 she won the gold medal in the single sculls at the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Alexandroupolis–Svilengrad railway</span> Railway connecting Alexandropoulis, Greece and Svilengrad, Bulgaria

The Alexandroupolis–Svilengrad railway is a 178.5 kilometres (110.9 mi) long railway connecting the port of Alexandroupolis in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece with Svilengrad in Bulgaria, via the village of Ormenio. Despite its name, as of 2020 there is only passenger service on the section on Greek territory, between Alexandroupolis and Ormenio, as the international services to Sofia and Istanbul have been suspended as of 2011.
