Joseph A. "Joe" Griffo is an American politician serving as a member of the New York Senate from the 53rd district since 2023, and the 47th district from 2007-2022. The 53rd district includes parts of Chenango, Oneida, and Madison Counties. Prior to his election to the Senate, Griffo served as mayor of Rome, New York and as Oneida County executive. A Republican, Griffo serves as deputy minority leader of the State Senate.

Rufus Pasquale "Rufie" Elefante was an American political boss from Utica, New York. Originally a Republican, who worked as a trucker, Elefante rose to power during the late 1920s. Though he never held public office, he came to control the Democratic political machine in Utica, which dominated Utica politics from the 1930s through the 1950s. Although the machine oversaw a period of economic stability for Utica, its tolerance of organized crime led to widespread corruption and vice, giving Utica the nickname "Sin City". Elefante was the most powerful figure in Oneida County during his time, and is still regarded as the Utica politician with the largest legacy. He remains a very controversial figure in Utica politics.

Edward Arnold Hanna was an American businessman and politician. He was mayor of Utica, New York, from 1974 to 1978 and from 1996 to 2000, running as an independent. Often described as a populist, Hanna was widely regarded as eccentric and abrasive and constantly clashed with the Utica business and political establishment, the rest of city government, and other local groups. A "non-stop talker" who The New York Times called "flamboyant, combative, and controversial", he once described Utica as "a stinking, rotten town" and "a lousy place to live" and told Uticans to move away for better opportunities. He built and renovated a number of parks and public artworks during his terms. However, Hanna failed to stem Utica's long-term economic and population decline.
