In 2001, the number of Muslims in Ottawa was 80,000, according to Ottawa Muslim Cemetery Inc. Ottawa is experiencing a mosque building boom with half a dozen mosques being built or expanded. The Assunah Muslims Association is building a mosque in Ottawa South and the Kanata Muslim Association is fundraising to seek a large location to replace the space it rents at a community centre.[ citation needed ]

Construction was completed in 2008 at an estimated self-funded cost of C$15 million, with roughly C$8 million coming from the approximately 3,000 local Ahmadi Muslims. It is the largest mosque in Canada.

Baitul Hamd is a mosque in Mississauga, Ontario west of Toronto run by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (AMJ) in Canada. It was purchased in 1999 from Trinity Club House. much of the exterior of the building has remained the same. The interior has been transformed into a place of worship. This building houses separate places of worship differentiated by gender, a large Islamic library, a homeopathic clinic, a large cafeteria and commercial kitchen and several offices along with a full size basketball court as well as volleyball net on the exterior. This Building has also served as the Jamia Ahmadiyya for North America from 2003 - 2010. This mosques serves the needs of the communities of Mississauga.
On 28 August 2011, an attack by the Islamic State of Iraq was launched at the Umm al-Qura Mosque in western Baghdad. A suicide bomber wearing a fake cast on his arm walked into the building and blew himself up inside the main hall, killing 32 people including parliamentarian Khalid al-Fahdawi. The attack took place near the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. The mosque is the largest place of worship for Sunni Muslims in the capital and the main headquarters of the Sunni Endowment. The organization is responsible for maintaining Sunni Muslim religious sites across Baghdad.
Champlain Park is an older urban neighbourhood in Kitchissippi Ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was considered in the 1930s as the west end of town. The boundaries of the neighbourhood are the Ottawa River and Scott Street. To the east is Tunney's Pasture and to the west is Island Park Drive. Westboro Beach is also to the west.
