The album was certified 5× Platinum by the RIAA on February 7, 2001. The album was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2001 Grammys.
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were an urban contemporary band and one of the first freestyle music groups to emerge from New York City in the 1980s.
