Notes

  1. As of December 2021, 14 HOA members (all APC) have not taken office due to a longstanding dispute over their swearing-ins; thus, although the APC technically have an elected majority, the practical number of APC Edo assemblypeople is 1 giving the PDP the majority.
  2. The FCT does not have an elected Governor or Deputy Governor but instead two presidentially-appointed equivalents, the FCT Minister and the FCT Minister of State, who currently are not PDP members.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Founded on 6 February 2013 from a merger of Nigeria's three largest opposition parties, the party came to power following the victory of party candidate Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election. This marked the first time in Nigerian history that an opposition party unseated a governing party and power was transferred peacefully.

Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki is a Nigerian politician and businessman who is currently the Governor of Edo State. He was first elected governor under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the year 2016 where He defeated Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the PDP and was sworned in as governor on 12 November 2016. Before becoming governor, he served as chairman of the Edo State Economic and Strategy Team inaugurated by former Governor Adams Oshiomole in March 2009.

Akwa Ibom State operates a multi-party political system. The politics of Akwa Ibom State has been dominated by the People's Democratic Party since 1999 when Victor Attah became the first democratically elected governor of Akwa Ibom State, followed closely by the All Progressives Congress.

The 2019 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election occurred on March 10, 2019. Incumbent PDP Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel won re-election for a second term, defeating Nsima Ekere of the APC.

The 2015 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on April 11, 2015, the PDP nominee Udom Gabriel Emmanuel won the election, defeating Umana Umana of the APC.

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections will be held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections will be held on 11 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly, two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State, Kogi State, and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.

The 2023 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, concurrent with elections to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. It will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
