A hypermarket or superstore is a big-box store combining a supermarket and a department store. The result is an expansive retail facility carrying a wide range of products under one roof, including full grocery lines and general merchandise. In theory, hypermarkets allow customers to satisfy all their routine shopping needs in one trip. The term hypermarket was coined in 1968 by French trade expert Jacques Pictet.

At the end of 2023 it had 3,956 stores, of which 2,318 in Spain, 1,048 in Argentina and 590 in Brazil with approximately 28,500 employees and a turnover of 8.9 billion euros. Dia also markets up to 7,500 Dia branded products internationally.

SABECO is a Spanish supermarket chain. It was formed in 1960 in Zaragoza. The first name of the company was Supermercados Aragoneses S.A. SABECO became the company's official name a few years later. SABECO was the first to establish self-service supermarkets in Spain.

Simply Market is a brand of French supermarkets formed in 2005. This brand is a new concept to eventually replace Atac supermarkets. The brand belongs to the AuchanSuper subsidiary that manages the branches of Auchan supermarkets. The group planned to open 500 Simply Market supermarkets in France by 2015.

Minipreço is a discount supermarket chain in Portugal, part of Auchan Portugal. Minipreço is one of the largest grocery chains in Portugal by store count, with 443 outlets in the country, second to Pingo Doce, which had 470 stores. The company is seventh in the country in terms of market share, having been eclipsed by Spanish chain, Mercadona in 2022.

Bi1 is a hypermarket chain in Poland and supermarket chain in France. Currently, eight large-format stores operate under this banner, including seven locations acquired from Real and a hypermarket in Ełk, established specifically for the chain and opened on March 3, 2021. These stores are managed by Rella Investments.
