Trade Unions in India are registered and file annual returns under the Trade Union Act (1926). Statistics on Trade Unions are collected annually by the Labour Bureau of the Ministry of Labour, Government of India. As per the latest data, released for 2012, there were 16,154 trade unions which had a combined membership of 9.18 million. The Trade Union movement in India is largely divided along political lines and follows a pre-Independence pattern of overlapping interactions between political parties and unions. The net result of this type of system is debated as it has both advantages and disadvantages. AITUC is the Largest Trade union of India.

The Indian People's Front was a mass organisation founded in Delhi between 24–26 April 1982. It was conceptualised by Vinod Mishra and operated as the open front of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation between 1982–1994. The front primarily worked for the social and economic upliftment of adivasis, dalits and other impoverished sections of society and mobilised them through the means of unions, agitation rallies and conventions.

All India Federation of Trade Unions, a central trade union federation in India. AIFTU was launched in 1992, as the trade union wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Janashakti. Following the breakdown of CPI (ML) Janashakti into various splinter groups and the withdrawal of many of them from open mass work, AIFTU declined. An attempt to reorganization was made, and the federation has been reconstructed under the leadership of the president P. K. Murthy and general secretary Burgula Pradeep, who had been elected by the 1992 founding conference. This AIFTU is today not affiliated with any specific political party. There are also some minor splinter groups using the name.
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh is one of the trade union organization in India. It was founded by Dattopant Thengadi on 23 July 1955.

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited or SCCL is a government-owned coal mining company in India. One of the public sector undertakings, the company is jointly owned by the Telangana government and the Union Government. The Union Government's administration of the company is through the Ministry of Coal. SCCL is currently operating 48 mines where 19 opencast and 29 underground mines in 6 districts of Telangana with a manpower around 45,079 as of Nov. 2020. The All Hyderabad Trade Union Congress (AHTUC) was a trade union centre in the Hyderabad State. Affiliated to the All India Trade Union Congress, it claimed a membership of around 72,000. The trade union centre, which was aligned with the Communist Party of India, was one of the organisations that took part in the Telangana Rebellion against the Nizam regime.

Rastriya Colliery Majdoor Sangh is a trade union of colliery workers of India. It is affiliated by ITUC affiliated Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), a trade union group made by Indian National Congress leaders. Erstwhile 'Colliery Majdoor Sangh' was founded by the union of veteran trade unionists Bindeshwari Dubey, Ram Narayan Sharma, Kanti Mehta, S. Dasgupta, B.P.Sinha, Murlidhar Prasad and few others. They then managed to get it affiliated by Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC). Later when Bindeshwari Dubey became its President in the 1970s he renamed it from 'Colliery Majdoor Sangh' to 'Rashtriya Colliery Majdoor Sangh'. Earlier he was its vice president and general secretary.
