The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) is a national level trade union in India. It has presence mostly in the Indian state of Tripura, followed by West Bengal, Kerala and Kanpur. They have also have some presence in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

CITU has an estimated membership of 6,200,000 in 2023. [1]

Tapan Kumar Sen is the General Secretary and K. Hemalata is the president of CITU. Hemalata was the first woman president of CITU, who was elected after A. K. Padmanabhan. [2] It runs a monthly organ named WORKING CLASS.

CITU is affiliated to the World Federation of Trade Unions. [3] At present the multiple industrial federations are functioning at the national level with CITU. .

It is also affiliated with AIITEU, workers union for IT/ITES employees in India.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (abbreviated as CPI(M)) is a communist political party in India. It is the largest communist party in India in terms of membership and electoral seats, and one of the national parties of India. Trade unions in India are registered and file annual returns under the Trade Union Act (1926). Statistics on trade unions are collected annually by the Labour Bureau of the Ministry of Labour, Government of India. According to the latest data released for 2012, there were 16,154 trade unions with a combined membership of 9.18 million, based on returns from 15 states out of a total of 28 states and 9 union territories. The trade union movement in India is largely divided along political lines and follows a pre-Independence pattern of overlapping interactions between political parties and unions. The net result of this system is debated, as it has both advantages and disadvantages. According to data submitted by various trade unions to the Ministry of Labour and Employment as part of a survey, INTUC, with a combined membership of 33.3 million, emerged as the largest trade union in India as of 2013.

E. Balanandan was an Indian politician and a trade union leader from the Kerala State of India. He had been a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s politburo since 1978. Born in Sakthikulangara, Kollam district, he was the son of Kunjiraman Channar and Unnikaali Easwari. His wife Sarojini Balanandan was a former CPI(M) State Committee member.

Trade Union Centre of India is a national central trade union organization in India. It is linked to the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Red Star. Initially it was founded as the trade union wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Red Flag. CITU has a membership exceeding 7,000,000 in 2024.

All India Federation of Trade Unions, a central trade union federation in India. AIFTU was launched in 1992, as the trade union wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Janashakti. Following the breakdown of CPI (ML) Janashakti into various splinter groups and the withdrawal of many of them from open mass work, AIFTU declined. An attempt to reorganization was made, and the federation has been reconstructed under the leadership of the president P. K. Murthy and general secretary Burgula Pradeep, who had been elected by the 1992 founding conference. This AIFTU is today not affiliated with any specific political party. There are also some minor splinter groups using the name.

The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) is the oldest trade union federation in India. It is associated with the Communist Party of India. According to provisional statistics from the Ministry of Labour, AITUC had a membership of 14.2 million in 2013. It was founded on 31 October 1920 with Lala Lajpat Rai as its first president.

Madhukar Kashinath Pandhe was a Politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from 2002 to 2011 and was also the General Secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), one of the largest trade unions in India.

Anathalavattom Anandan was an Indian politician, a trade unionist and a member of Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the President of the Kerala State Committee and national Vice President of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions and the State Secretariat Member of the CPI(M) Kerala State Committee. Anandan was also the President of Kerala Coir Workers Centre. He was elected thrice to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Attingal constituency in 1987, 1996 and 2006. The Government of Kerala had appointed him as the Vice Chairman of Apex Body for Coir in August 2016.

All India Federation of Women Lawyers is an association of Indian women lawyers. The federation was established in 2007. It is a registered association under the Society's Registration Act. The federation is affiliated with International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).

Sindu was the general secretary of the union, and Neelima Maitra its president.

Kadakampally Surendran is an Indian politician, who served as the Minister for Co-Operation, Tourism, and Devaswom in the first Pinarayi Vijayan ministry (2016–2021) of the Government of Kerala. He was the Thiruvananthapuram District Committee Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for nearly a decade (2007–2016).

K. Hemalata is an Indian Marxist politician and Central Committee member of Communist Party of India (Marxist). She is the first women to lead a union at national level in the history of trade union movement in India.

E. Padmanabhan was a politician from Kerala, India, who represented Sreekrishnapuram constituency in the 7th Kerala Legislative Assembly. One of the founding leaders and long term general secretary of the Kerala NGO Union, he was also known as NGO Padmanabhan.
