Live at Billy Bob's Texas is a live album by American country artist Janie Fricke. It was released on April 2, 2002, via Image Entertainment and Smith Music Group. It was the first live record issued in Fricke's career and contained 17 tracks. The album was part of a larger project in which several country artists recorded live records at Billy Bob's Texas, a dance hall in the southern United States.

Background and recording

In the early 2000s, employees of the Smith Music Group noticed an increased public interest in Texas country music. To increase the profile of the record company, president Rick Smith brought in several country artists to record live records at Billy Bob's Texas. Located in Fort Worth, Texas, the venue opened in 1981 and became a major attraction for country audiences. Smith chose Lynn Anderson, Merle Haggard, T.G. Sheppard and Janie Fricke to be part of their Live at Billy Bob's Texas album series. [2] After a string of number one and top ten country songs in the 1980s, Live at Billy Bob's Texas would be Fricke's first live album project made in her career. [3] The project was recorded at Billy Bob's Texas in late 2001. It was produced by Billy Minick and Rick Smith. [4]

Content and release

Live at Billy Bob's Texas consisted of 17 tracks all recorded live. [1] Twelve of the album's tracks were some of Fricke's most recognizable country chart hits. Among these recordings were the former number one Billboard country songs "Tell Me a Lie", "Don't Worry 'bout Me Baby" and "It Ain't Easy Bein' Easy." [4] [5] The album also included five live versions of songs first released on Fricke's 2000 album Bouncin' Back : "Quilt of Dreams", "Any Other Stone", "Bouncing Back", "See-Saw Ride" and "Love Forever More". [4] [6] Live at Billy Bob's Texas was originally released on April 2, 2002, on Image Entertainment and Smith Group Music. It was originally available as a compact disc. [4] The album was sold partially on television and was promoted through a deal made with the Dodge automotive corporation. [2] The album was later made available to digital platforms including Apple Music. [7]
