Lofa-1 is an electoral district for the elections to the House of Representatives of Liberia. The constituency covers the northern parts of Foya District, i.e. the communities of Borliloe, Lepaloe, Ndehuma, Yelayaloe, Konkpama, Bandenin, Bandenin Melimu, Ndama, Foya, Fassapoe and Sinagole. [3]

Lofa is a county in the northernmost portion of Liberia. One of 15 counties that constitute the first-level of administrative division in the nation, it has nine districts. Voinjama serves as the capital with the area of the county measuring 3,854 square miles (9,980 km2). As of the 2022 Census, it had a population of 367,376, making it Liberia's fourth most populous county.
The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the bicameral legislative branch of Liberia, and together with the Senate comprises the Legislature of Liberia. The number of seats is fixed by law at 73, with each county being apportioned a number of seats based on its percentage of the national population. House members represent single-member districts within the counties drawn up by the National Elections Commission and serve six-year terms. The House meets at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.
The Senate is the upper house of the bicameral legislative branch of Liberia, and together with the House of Representatives comprises the Legislature of Liberia. Each of the fifteen counties are equally represented by two senators, elected to serve staggered nine-year terms. The Senate meets at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.
Joseph Nyumah Boakai is a Liberian politician who is the 26th and current president of Liberia. He previously served as the 29th vice president of Liberia from 2006 to 2018, under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and as the minister of agriculture from 1983 to 1985. Boakai ran for president in 2017, losing the election to George Weah. He went on to defeat Weah in the 2023 election.
Foya District is one of six districts located in Lofa County, Liberia. Foya District is the most populous district in Lofa County, with 73,312 people as of the 2008 census. Foya is predominantly occupied by the Kissi tribe. Foya is about 450 km (280 mi) from Monrovia.

The 2022 Liberian by-election was held on June 28 in Lofa County. It was triggered by the criminal conviction of Senator-elect Brownie Samukai. Originally scheduled for May 10, the by-election was postponed due to legal matters. The election resulted in the victory of Joseph Kpator Jallah, an independent candidate backed by the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change. A number of opposition groups and individuals disputed the election results.
