Loida Garcia-Febo is a Puerto Rican American librarian and library consultant. Garcia-Febo served on the Governing Board of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) 2013-2015 and 2015-2017 [1] [2] and she was a member of the executive board of the American Library Association 2015-2020 serving as a board member and president. [3] [4] She was president of the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking (REFORMA) from 2009 to 2010. [5]
Garcia-Febo has served as an elementary school librarian in Puerto Rico,Graduated from the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology (EGCTI),University of Puerto Rico. Was a librarian at the Centro de Informacion (PRATP) of the Unidad de Servicios Bibliotecarios para Personas con Impedimentos (SBPI) de la Universidad de Puerto Rico,[University of Puerto Rico,Library Services for Persons with Disabilities’Assistive Technology Information Center],Chief of the SBPI,and Manager at Queens Library. Garcia-Febo was a co-founder of the IFLA New Professionals SIG (Special Interest Group),an international forum for library and information services students and newly qualified librarians. [7]
Garcia-Febo has served on the Access to Learning Award Advisory Board for the Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation - Global Libraries, [8] the Library 2.0 advisory board from the San Jose State University School of Information, [9] Library Advisory Board of Praeger an imprint of ABC-Clio,and the Public Libraries Advisory Committee [10] and has been associated with REFORMA (The National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking) serving on the board from 2008 to 2011,including a term as president from 2009 to 2010. Garcia-Febo represented the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions as a speaker at the United Nations Development Programme Meeting on Data Accountability for the Post-2015 Development Agenda in New York. [11]
Garcia-Febo was the President of Information New Wave, [9] an international charity seeking to enhance the education of minority groups in the US and in developing countries. [12]
In April 2017,Garcia-Febo was elected president-elect of the American Library Association 2018–2019. [13] [14] [15] Garcia-Febo completed a national tour of libraries during her presidential term leading the Libraries = Strong Communities national advocacy initiative. [16] [17] [18] [19] Garcia-Febo represented the American Library Association at Generation Code:Born in the Library interactive exhibition presenting to the members of the European Parliament. [20]
In June 2020,Garcia-Febo was elected to the board of trustees for the Freedom to Read Foundation. [21] She also chairs the American Library Association Task Force on United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. [22]

REFORMA:The National Association to Promote Library &Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking,more commonly known as REFORMA,is an affiliate of the American Library Association formed in 1971 to promote library services to Latinos and the Spanish-speaking. It is registered in Washington,D.C. as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Arnulfo Duenes Trejo was a writer and Professor of Library Science at the University of Arizona. He was a leader in the movement to increase library collections of Latino literature and Spanish-language materials in the United States. He was also instrumental in efforts to train more Latino and Spanish-speaking people as professional librarians.
Robert Wedgeworth is an American librarian who was the founding President of ProLiteracy Worldwide,an adult literacy organization. He is also a former executive director of the American Library Association,served as president of IFLA,served as Dean of the School of Library Service at Columbia University,and was university librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has also authored and edited several major reference works,and has won many awards over the course of his career. The Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials (SALALM) is the oldest professional Area Studies library organization for academic librarians,archivists,book vendors,scholars,and students who specialize in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Members are from at least 20 different countries. SALALM promotes better library services and purchasing power among individual members and member libraries. With the Secretariat based at Tulane University's Latin American Library,it is an international non-profit professional organization with three official languages:English,Spanish,and Portuguese. SALALM is an affiliate of the American Library Association. As of May 2015,the organization had 242 personal and 84 institutional members including librarians,archivists,book dealers,vendors,and university libraries.
Patricia "Patty" Wong is the city librarian of Santa Clara,California. Wong was the president of the American Library Association (ALA) for the 2021-2022 term and is the first Asian American president of the ALA. She has been on the faculty at the San Jose State University iSchool since 2006,teaching subjects such as equitable access to library services,library management,and library services to young people.
Lessa Kananiʻopua Pelayo-Lozada is an American librarian. She is the adult services assistant manager for the Palos Verdes Library District in Southern California. In 2021,Pelayo-Lozada was elected as president of the American Library Association for the 2022-2023 term;she is the youngest person to be elected ALA president as well as the first Pacific Islander.
Camille Callison is an Indigenous librarian,archivist,academic,and cultural activist who is a member of the Tsesk iye (Crow) Clan of the Tahltan Nation in what is now known as British Columbia,Canada. She is the University Librarian at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford. Callison is an advocate for the rights of Indigenous peoples and knowledge,particularly as these rights intersect with GLAM institutions. Callison is actively involved across local,national,and international professional associations related to the library and informational needs of Indigenous peoples,including in her role as co-lead of the National Indigenous Knowledge and Language Alliance (NIKLA).
