Lorna Magara is the first woman to be elected chairperson of the Makerere University Council, since the founding of the university in 1922. She was elected to a renewable four-year term, effective 20 December 2018. The Council is a 27-member body that serves as the supreme governing organ of Uganda's largest and oldest public university. She was born to Hezron [3] and Catherine Kakuyo in 1966 [4] and spent most of her childhood in Jinja. After attending Victoria and Berkley primary schools, both in eastern Uganda, for her primary education, she then joined Gayaza High School for all six years of her secondary education [4] Ms Magara was admitted to Makerere University in 1985, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concurrent Diploma in Education, in 1988. [5]
Her second degree is a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Management, awarded by Uganda Christian University, in Mukono District. In addition, she has several certificates in leadership and education from local and international institutions. [5]
During the first six years of her career, from 1989 until 1995, Ms Magara was a human resource officer at Uganda National Social Security Fund (NSSF). In this capacity, she was part of the team that established the training department and manpower planning unit at NSSF. [5]
After that, she went into private consulting and serves as the Director at Destiny Consult Limited, a private consultancy that provided leadership training programs. This phase of her career lasted 12 years, until 2008. [5]
In 2008 she became a faculty member at African Kingdom Business Forum (AKBF), a personnel development consultancy that provides leadership training programs. She also started working as a member of the faculty at Sundolous African Leadership Training Program (SALT), another human resources and training consultancy. [5]
She is expected to serve a renewable four-year term as Chairperson of Makerere University Council and will be deputized by Daniel Kidega, the former speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly. [1] [2]
Ms Magara is the founder and Principal of Vine International Christian Academy, a school with grades from Pre-School to Grade 12, located in Kungu, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, Buganda Region, Uganda. [5] [6]
She is a Director at Jubilee Dental Limited, a company that operates three dental clinics in Uganda and one in Kigali, Rwanda. She is the Africa Representative of Accelerated Education Enterprise, Uganda Chapter; Team Leader of Education Accelerators Uganda Limited. She is the Uganda Coordinator for International Certificate for Christian Education. [5] [7]
Lorna Magara is married to Dr. James Magara and the couple has four children between them, three boys and one girl. [4] She is also sister to Allen Kagina , Jocelyn Kyobutungi Rugunda (wife to Uganda's Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda ) as well as Caleb Kakuyo, the former Chief Commercial Officer at the National Housing and Construction Company, among others [3]
Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. The main administrative block was gutted by fire in September 2020 and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
Makerere College School is a co-educational government aided O and A Level school founded in 1945 by Makerere University. In 1945 Makerere University was still a constituent college of the University of London. The school is located on the main campus of Makerere University, adjacent to the College of Education and External Studies on Makerere Hill Road.
Augustus Nuwagaba is an international consultant on economic transformation. He is a wealth creation expert in Africa. He is qualified (MBA)in application of central bank monetary policy on commercial bank competitiveness. Prof. Nuwagaba has worked intensively in analysis of fiscal metrics for governments in Africa, review of financial performance and analysis of tax policies. He works as the managing consultant at REEV Consult International Limited, a private consultancy firm, incorporated in Uganda, with headquarters at plot 515 Bombo road within the city of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. He was Consultant for the African Peer Review Mechanism under NEPAD, was a member of the African Regional Panel of Experts on Development. Nuwagaba is a member of the World Bank Consultative Group that developed the African Plan of Action. He was the team leader of FINSCOPE - Financial Penetration Project (2013). He was a team leader for Developing Financial Management and Training manual for Parliamentary Accountability Committees, member of audit committee of the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of Uganda, winner of International Award for significant Contribution to World Society and Appears In World Who is Who (2004), page 336. In addition, he was a consultant for mid-term review of the National Development Plan for the Republic of Uganda [2010/11–2014/15]. He is a consultant for formulating the East African Community development investment plan (2016/17-2020/21). Nuwagaba is a regular speaker at the induction of members of parliament of Uganda.
Gayaza High School is the oldest all-girls boarding secondary school covering grades 8 to 13 in Uganda. The school is Church-founded, government-aided and accredited by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Sports.
Syda Namirembe Bbumba is a Ugandan accountant, politician and banker. She served in the Cabinet of Uganda as Minister of Energy and Minerals from 2002 to 2006, Minister of Gender, Labor and Social Development from 2006 to 2008, Minister of Finance from 2009 to 2011, and Minister of Gender, Labor and Social Development again from 2011 to 2012. She was also the elected Member of Parliament for Nakaseke County North, Nakaseke District She was the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy and also Chairperson of the Parliamentary Islamic Banking Forum. She was Sub-Saharan Africa's representative to the OIC Women Advisory Panel.
Maria Emily Lubega Mutagamba was a Ugandan economist and politician. She was the minister of tourism, wildlife and antiquities in the Ugandan Cabinet from 15 August 2012 until 6 June 2016.
Christine Joyce Dradidi Ondoa is a physician and medical administrator who is regarded as one of Uganda's finest leaders especially in ensuring that the quality of health service delivery in Uganda is improved, and discipline and ethical code of conduct among health workers is observed. She is a Ugandan paediatrician and Christian Leader. She currently serves as the Director General of the Uganda AIDS Commission. She was appointed to that position by the President of Uganda in February 2014. Prior to that, she served as a Senior Presidential Advisor to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Public Health. She was a member of the board of directors of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI). She was Minister of Health in the Ugandan Cabinet from 2011 to 2013. She was appointed to that position on 27 May 2011, but was replaced by Ruhakana Rugunda on 23 May 2013. On account of being a cabinet minister she was a member of the Ugandan Parliament, in an ex officio capacity. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, one of the fourteen regional referral hospitals in Uganda.

She is the first City Leader in Residence at Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative at the Ash Center of the Harvard Kennedy School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. She was appointed to this position in January 2019.
Allen Catherine Kagina is a Ugandan administrator and corporate executive. She is the executive director of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA). She was appointed to that position on 27 April 2015. Before that, from 2004 until 2014, she served as the Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
Maud Kamatenesi Mugisha, is a Ugandan female Natural Scientist and academic administrator. She is the former Vice Chancellor of Bishop Stuart University, a private Chartered institution of Higher Education in Uganda, accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education.

Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, also Grace Kwiyucwiny, is a Ugandan politicianwho serves as the State Minister for Northern Uganda in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. She also served as the woman Member of Parliament representing the Zombo District.

Doreen Nyanjura is a Ugandan politician, who was on 18 June 2020, appointed Deputy Lord Mayor for Kampala, replacing Sarah Kanyike. She also serves as the elected Local Council 5 (LCV) Woman Councillor, representing Makerere University at Kampala Capital City Authority, the governing body of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. She was elected to her present position in 2016.
