Jyrelle Justin O'Connor [2] (born 6 May 1999), known professionally as Loski (formerly Lil' Nizzy), is a British rapper and singer from Kennington, London. He is part of the Kennington-based UK drill group Harlem Spartans.

Loski began his career in 2012 under the name Lil' Nizzy and in 2016 under his current moniker he released his breakout single "Hazards"; this was followed by "DJ Khaled", which both became underground hits.

On 13 April 2018 he released his debut mixtape, Call Me Loose, and on 1 March 2019 he released his second mixtape, Mad Move. In 2020, Loski released his long-awaited debut studio album, Music, Trial & Trauma: A Drill Story. On 15 October 2021 he released a 10-song EP titled, Censored EP and on 30 June 2023 he released his fifth project titled, See You At The Gates, after being sentenced to 7 years in prison for possessing a loaded revolver. He was then released on 1 October 2024.

Early life

Jyrelle Justin O'Connor was born in Kennington, London on 6 May 1999. His father was Ty Nizzy, a member of the PDC rap group and "an originator of road rap", according to The Guardian . [5] His mother, Dionne Greenland, studied English literature and history while attending university, which Loski said inspired storytelling within his songs. [9] O'Connor said in an interview with VICE that both of his parents supported him in pursuing a musical career. [8]

O'Connor moved from Kennington to Borehamwood to live with his grandmother at the age of 12 following a group of boys putting a gun to his head. [1] He attended Hertswood Academy. In 2013, he was reported as missing from his house. [10]

Career

During O'Connor's early musical career, he went under the name Lil' Nizzy, in reference to his father, Ty Nizzy, member of legendary road rap collective PDC . [5] He released a song alongside Danks in 2012. [11]

Under the name Loski, he released his breakout single, "Hazards", in 2016. [9] Other early songs included "Money and Beef", "DJ Khaled" and "Teddy Bruckshot". [12]

In March 2018, Loski was signed to Sony Music Entertainment. [13] The following month, he released his debut mixtape Call Me Loose, [12] which peaked at number 44 on the UK Albums Chart and was named as one of the inspirations for Scorpion by Drake. [14] [15] In an article with MTV, Loski stated that the mixtape was about "the neighbourhood, friends, everything growing up". [16] The following year, he released the mixtape Mad Move, which peaked at number 41. An article in Versus noted that the mixtape "sees the south Londoner plant himself firmly at the fore of the genre." [17]

In 2020, Loski released his debut album, Music, Trial & Trauma: A Drill Story, which peaked at number 39 on the UK Albums Chart and was noted as being "several albums at once". [18] Robert Kazandjian, writing for Clash , stated that the album was divided into three acts, with the album as a whole mainly centered around legal issues. [19]

In September 2021, Loski announced his debut EP, Censored. [20] The EP was released on 15 October; [21] an article in Trench noted that "although the extensive cast of producers keep the Censored's sound close to Loski's drill roots, the rapper's evolution is laid bare as he attacks each track with an effortless display of lyrical greaze." [22]

Criminal convictions

In 2015, while O'Connor was 15 years old he was convicted of possession of a sawn-off shotgun. [23] In 2016, O'Connor was sentenced to prison after being found in possession of a knife. He was released in 2017.

On 9 April 2019, he was stopped by police while travelling to Willesden; they found him in possession of a revolver. [23] O'Connor was charged with possession of a firearm, intent to endanger life, and possession of ammunition as a result; his first trial resulted in a retrial as a result of his prosecutor falling ill, while the second resulted in a hung jury. [24] [13] He was found guilty of possessing a prohibited firearm on 5 January 2023 and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. [25] [7] O'Connor was then later released on 30 September 2024.

Jeffery Lamar Williams II, known professionally as Young Thug, is an American rapper. Known for his eccentric vocal style and fashion, he is considered an influential figure in modern hip hop and trap music, and a pioneer of the mumble rap microgenre. Williams embarked on a musical career in 2011, releasing a series of mixtapes beginning with I Came from Nothing. In 2013, he signed with fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane's 1017 Records and gained further attention and praise for his debut mixtape with the label, 1017 Thug, released in February of that year.

UK drill is a subgenre of drill music and road rap that originated in the South London district of Brixton from 2012 onwards. UK drill lyrical content tends to be truculent, depicting the harsh realism of their lifestyles. The explicit lyricism has stimulated discussion about whether the subgenre is a factor in an increase in knife crime in London. Gang affiliation and socioeconomically-deprived backgrounds are common amongst UK drill artists. Artists such as 150, 67, Harlem Spartans, 1011, and 410 have been cited as innovators of UK drill.

Nathan Tokosi, known professionally as DigDat, is a British rapper from Deptford, London. His single "Air Force" peaked at number 20 on the UK Singles Chart following the release of the remix featuring Krept and Konan and K-Trap; this was the first time one of his tracks had entered the top 20. His next single, "No Cap" with Loski, peaked at number 51.

Zone 2 is a British hip hop collective based in Peckham, London. The group has gained millions of views and streams through their music on YouTube and streaming platforms. The group is noteworthy for its rivalry with Moscow17. The rivalry began around 2016 and has resulted in various diss tracks between the two groups, as well as physical violence.

Harlem Spartans, often abbreviated to HS, also known as Harlem O or simply Harlem, is a British hip hop collective based in Kennington, London. Members of Harlem Spartans have acquired over 100 million streams through their music. The name, "Harlem", is a nickname for their local area of Kennington. The police allege that Harlem Spartans is a gang, however this is denied by the group.

OFB, short for Original Farm Boys, is a British hip hop collective based in Broadwater Farm, North London. OFB is one of the most prominent UK drill groups.

Skengdo x AM, whose real names are Terrell Daniel Doyley and Joshua Malinga, respectively, are a British hip hop duo from Brixton, London. They are both members of the UK drill group and alleged gang, 410, which is known to have conflict with neighbouring Harlem Spartans, based in Kennington. The duo gained some media attention in 2019 where they were handed a suspended jail sentence due to performing a song that police alleged encouraged gang violence.

Oakley Neil Caesar-Su, known professionally as Central Cee, is a British rapper from Shepherd's Bush, London. He rose to prominence in 2020 with the release of his singles "Day in the Life" and "Loading". Dorai Harrison born 1 September 1998, known professionally as M24, is a British rapper and singer. He began his musical career in 2016, releasing his debut mixtape, Drip N Drill, in 2020.

A92 is an Irish drill collective based in Drogheda. Named after the postal code of Drogheda town, A92 was formed in 2020 and went viral following the release of "Plugged in Freestyle".

Tomas Adedayo Adeyinka, commonly known by his stage name Offica, is an Irish rapper of Nigerian descent. During a youth soccer career between 2016 and 2019, he released his debut single "No Hook" in 2018, going viral following the release of "Naruto Drillings" in 2019 and "Plugged in Freestyle" alongside drill collective A92 in 2020.

Carl Latricio Brown, known professionally as SR, is a British rapper who went viral for his single "Welcome to Brixton" in 2020. His follow-up song, "Practice Makes Perfect", was named in the top 10 songs to come out of the United Kingdom by DJBooth in May 2021.

Kemani Tutti Kane Duggan, known professionally as Bandokay, is a British rapper. He is a member of the UK drill group OFB.

Andre Deer, known professionally as Double Lz, is a British rapper and songwriter. He is a former member of the UK drill group OFB. Debuting in 2018, he released two mixtapes - Frontstreet and Drill Commandments - alongside Bandokay and SJ in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
