The Louisville Division is a railroad division operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia. The Louisville Division comprises 29 subdivisions. [1]

Capital Subdivision

The Capital Subdivision is a railroad line owned and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. The line runs from near Baltimore, Maryland, southwest to Washington, D.C., along the former Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road (B&O) Washington Branch. The subdivision's Alexandria Extension provides a connection to Virginia and points south.

Louisville and Indiana Railroad

The Louisville and Indiana Railroad is a Class III railroad that operates freight service between Indianapolis, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky, with a major yard and maintenance shop in Jeffersonville, Indiana. It is owned by Anacostia Rail Holdings.

The Indiana Rail Road is a United States Class II railroad, originally operating over former Illinois Central Railroad trackage from Newton, Illinois, to Indianapolis, Indiana, a distance of 155 miles (249 km). This line, now known as the Indiana Rail Road's Indianapolis Subdivision, comprises most of the former IC/ICG line from Indianapolis to Effingham, Illinois; Illinois Central successor Canadian National Railway retains the portion from Newton to Effingham. INRD also owns a former Milwaukee Road line from Terre Haute, Indiana, to Burns City, Indiana, with trackage rights extending to Chicago, Illinois. INRD no longer serves Louisville, Kentucky, and the Port of Indiana on the Ohio River at Jeffersonville, Indiana, through a haulage agreement with the Louisville & Indiana Railroad (LIRC).

The Keystone Subdivision is a railroad line owned and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Maryland and Pennsylvania. The line runs from Cumberland, Maryland, west to McKeesport, Pennsylvania, along a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) line. The line includes the well-known Sand Patch Grade over the Allegheny Mountains.

The Columbus Line Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of Ohio. The line runs from Galion south to Columbus along a former New York Central Railroad line.

The Illinois Subdivision is a railroad line owned and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Indiana and Illinois. The line runs from Washington, Indiana, west to East St. Louis, Illinois, along a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line.

The Indianapolis Subdivision is a railroad line owned and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Ohio and Indiana. The line runs from Hamilton, Ohio, west to Indianapolis, Indiana, along a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line.

The Toledo Subdivision is a railroad line owned and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of Ohio. The line runs from Hamilton north to Perrysburg along a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad line.

The Decatur Subdivision is a railroad line owned and operated by the Decatur & Eastern Illinois Railroad (DREI), a division of Watco, and formerly CSX in the U.S. states of Indiana and Illinois. The line runs from Hillsdale, Indiana, west to Decatur, Illinois, along a former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad line. The east end of the line is near a junction with the CE&D Subdivision; at Chrisman, Illinois, it intersected the Danville Secondary Subdivision.

The Marietta Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation and operated by Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad in the U.S. states of West Virginia and Ohio. The line runs from Parkersburg, West Virginia, west to Belpre, Ohio, and north via Marietta to Relief along a former Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road line. Its south end is at a connection to the Ohio River Subdivision; the line crosses the Ohio River on the Parkersburg Bridge between Parkersburg and Belpre.

The St. Louis Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation and leased to the Evansville Western Railway in the U.S. states of Indiana and Illinois. The line runs from Evansville, Indiana, to Okawville, Illinois, for a total of 122.2 miles (196.7 km). At its south end it branches off the Evansville Terminal Subdivision and at its north end the track comes to an end.

The Cincinnati Terminal Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Kentucky and Ohio the line is part of the CSX Transportation Louisville Division and the Northern Region. There are seven sections to the Cincinnati Terminal Subdivision. The seven sections are as follows:

The Hoosier Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of Indiana. The line runs from New Albany, Indiana, to Bedford, Indiana, for a total of 72.2 miles. At its south end it continues north from Norfolk Southern and at its north end it comes to an end; it formerly connected here with the Soo Line and former Canadian Pacific branch from Terre Haute, Indiana. The Indiana Rail Road operated on the Hoosier Subdivision from the Milwaukee Road junction in Bedford to Louisville from 2006 until 2009. The Hoosier Subdivision is considered out of service by CSX but is rail banked in case of future revival. The last train ran between New Albany and Mitchell in 2010 but a small section in New Albany remained in service until 2016 to serve an industry until it closed.

The LH&STL Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was originally built as the Louisville, Henderson and Texas Railway in 1882, with the intent of building a line to Texas by way of St. Louis, Missouri. It was nicknamed "The Texas Line," by which it is still often referred today. The line fell into bankruptcy and was reorganized as the Louisville, Henderson and St. Louis Railway in 1896. The rail line was acquired by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad in 1929; the parent company still exists and holds other rail-related assets. Through a series of mergers, the line is now operated by CSX.

The Louisville Terminal Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The line is located in Louisville, Kentucky, and links the LCL Subdivision to the north with the Main Line Subdivision to the south.

The Middletown Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. State of Ohio. The line runs from New Miami, Ohio. to Middletown, Ohio, for a total of 11.2 miles (18.0 km). At its south end it branches off of the Toledo Subdivision at Middletown Junction and at its north end the line branches off thru Lind Yard than enters AK Steel Middletown Works, after crossing the Norfolk Southern Dayton District on the High Line or on a diamond the line continues north with the track ending at Cohen Recycling.

The Northern Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Kentucky and Ohio. The line runs from Greenup, Kentucky, to Columbus, Ohio, for a total of 106.4 miles (171.2 km). At its south end the line continues north from the Russell Subdivision and at its north end the line continues north as the Columbus Subdivision of the Great Lakes Division.
