Lynn Ann Peterson (born October 22,1968) is an American politician in the U.S. state of Oregon serving as the council president of Metro. [1] Metro is the only directly-elected regional government in the United States,and spans 24 cities in the Portland,Oregon three-county area, [2] [1] along with many unincorporated suburbs in the Portland metropolitan area.
Peterson's career began in 1988 as an engineer for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. [3] Peterson has worked as a travel forecaster for Metro,a transportation advocate for 1000 Friends of Oregon,a strategic planner for TriMet,and as an independent consultant. [4]
Peterson began her political career as a city councilor in Lake Oswego,Oregon from 2003 to 2006. [5] She served as the chair of Clackamas County Commission from 2007 to 2011. [5]
She resigned from the Clackamas County Commission when she was appointed to be a transportation adviser to Oregon governor John Kitzhaber. [6]
In 2013,she was appointed by Washington governor Jay Inslee as Secretary of Transportation,the chief of the Washington State Department of Transportation, [7] where she guided Washington's largest transportation funding package in its history:$16 billion. [3] In 2016,she was not confirmed by the Republican-controlled state senate,resulting in a controversial end to her WSDOT tenure. [8] Governor Inslee responded critically to the Republicans' action. [9]
Peterson was sworn in as Metro President on Jan. 7,2019. [10] She received 78 percent of the vote,defeating one opponent to replace Tom Hughes,who had served the limit of two consecutive terms. [11] She had been endorsed by many Oregon elected officials,and her campaign included a 24-city bike tour. [12]
On September 7,2021,Peterson announced she will run for reelection. [13] She won a second term in the primary by receiving more than 50% of the vote. [14] [15]
On June 8,2023,Peterson announced that she would be seeking the Democratic nomination for Oregon's 5th congressional district,currently held by Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer. [16] [17]
Peterson lives in Lake Oswego,Oregon,with her husband and three Alaskan malamute dogs. [5] In 2022,she wrote a book,Roadways for People:Rethinking Transportation Planning and Engineering,along with Elizabeth Doerr. [18]
Lake Oswego is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon,primarily in Clackamas County,with small portions extending into neighboring Multnomah and Washington counties. Population in 2020 was 40,731,a 11.2% increase since 2010,making it the 11th most populous city in Oregon. Located about 7 miles (11 km) south of Portland and surrounding the 405-acre (164 ha) Oswego Lake,the town was founded in 1847 and incorporated as Oswego in 1910. Metro is the regional government for the Oregon portion of the Portland metropolitan area,covering portions of Clackamas,Multnomah,and Washington Counties. It is the only directly elected regional government and metropolitan planning organization in the United States. Metro is responsible for overseeing the Portland region's solid waste system,general planning of land use and transportation,maintaining certain regional parks and natural areas,and operating the Oregon Zoo,Oregon Convention Center,Portland's Centers for the Arts,and the Portland Expo Center. It also distributes money from two voter-approved tax measures:one for homeless services and one for affordable housing.

Katherine Brown is an American politician and attorney who served as the 38th governor of Oregon from 2015 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,she served three terms as the state representative from the 13th district of the Oregon House of Representatives from 1991 to 1997,three terms as the state senator from the 21st district of the Oregon Senate from 1997 to 2009,three terms as majority leader of the Oregon Senate from 2003 to 2009,and two terms as Oregon Secretary of State from 2009 to 2015. She assumed the governorship upon the resignation of John Kitzhaber in 2015. She was elected to serve out the remainder of his gubernatorial term in the special election in 2016 and was reelected to a full term in 2018.
Mary Therese Nolan is a Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Oregon. She represented District 36 in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013,and served as the majority leader from 2008 to 2010. She ran unsuccessfully for the Portland City Council in 2012. She came back into office in 2020,when she was elected as one of the councilors for the Portland-area regional government,Metro.
The 2010 Oregon gubernatorial election was held on Tuesday,November 2,2010 to elect the Governor of Oregon to a four-year term beginning on January 10,2011. The incumbent governor,Democrat Ted Kulongoski,was ineligible to run due to term limits barring him from being elected to more than two consecutive terms.
