M. Roy Wilson (born November 28,1953) [1] was an American ophthalmologist and academic administrator the 12th President of Wayne State University. [2]
Wilson was born in Yokohama,Japan. He completed his undergraduate degree at Allegheny College in Meadville,Pennsylvania in 1976. Soon after graduating,he was accepted to Harvard Medical School,where he received his M.D. in 1980. It was there he trained as an ophthalmologist and researcher. [3] Wilson is an accomplished researcher,focused on glaucoma and blindness in West Africa,the Caribbean and urban communities in the United States. [4] Most of his scientific and service contributions have been in developing countries. [3] In 1985,M. Roy Wilson attended the University of California,Los Angeles to complete his master's degree in epidemiology. He graduated in 1990. [5]
Wilson was unanimously elected President of Wayne State University by the Board of Governors on June 5,2013. He assumed the presidency on August 1,2013. [6]
Prior to joining Wayne State,President Wilson served as deputy director for strategic scientific planning and program coordination at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities of National Institutes of Health. [4]

He is the Chairman of the Task Force on Prevention and Control of Diabetic Retinopathy Group and the Co-Chairman of the National Task Force on Prevention of Blindness from Retinopathy of Prematurity under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India. An advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,India. Sharma was honored by the Government of India in 2015 with Padma Shri,the fourth highest Indian civilian award. In 2005,Yog Raj Sharma's published article on "Pars plana vitrectomy vs scleral buckling in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment" in Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica and in November 2021,American society of retina specialists cited it as top 100 publications on retinal detachment management in the last ~121 years. Of these top hundred publications,only nineteen countries contributed,three of the contributing countries were Asian and from India this study was the sole contribution. Dr Sharma called it 'the singular biggest achievement of his career" in an article published in Daily Excelsior,Jammu in December 2021.

Rohit Varma is an Indian-American ophthalmologist and professor of ophthalmology and preventive medicine. In 2014,he was named director of the USC Eye Institute and chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology for Keck School of Medicine of USC. In March 2016,Varma was named the interim dean of the Keck School of Medicine,and in November was named dean. In October 2017,USC announced that he stepped down as dean. In October 2018,Varma became the founding director of the Southern California Eyecare and Vision Research Institute.
Keiki R. Mehta,an Indian ophthalmologist,medical researcher and writer,is considered by many as the father of Phacoemulsification in India. He is the Chief Surgical and Medical Director at Mehta International Eye Institute,a Mumbai-based specialty eye hospital founded by him. He is known to be the first surgeon to perform a Radial keratotomy in India and is credited with the development of the first soft eye implant in the world,and the Keiki Mehta BP Valve Glaucoma Shunt,a medical implant used in the treatment of neovascular‚congenital and uveitic glaucoma. He is a recipient of several honours including the Grand Honors Award of the National Eye Research Foundation,Chicago and the Triple Ribbon Award of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri,in 2008,for his contributions to Medicine.

The institute is affiliated with Legacy Health,a network of seven hospitals in Portland and Southwest Washington. Legacy Devers includes the Thelma and Gilbert Schnitzer Comprehensive Glaucoma Center.
