M. Varalakshmi (born 16 April 1974 [1] ) is an Indian politician and member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. She was elected as the representative of the Chengalpattu constituency in the 2016 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. [2]
Varalakshmi is a resident of Appur village in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu and a diploma graduate of the Kanchipuram Government College of Nursing. [3]
Varalakshmi was the representative as the head of the Appur Panchayat between 2006 and 2016. [1]
In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election,she was nominated to contest as the candidate of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from the Chengalpattu state assembly constituency in the Kanchipuram district . Her primary opponent in the election was R. Kamalakkannan who was the candidate of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The election resulted in Varalakshmi emerging as the winning candidate with a margin of over 27,000 votes and polling at 45.11% of the votes cast against 34.58% of the votes cast in favor of Kamalakkannan. The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Dravidian party founded by the former leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Vijayakant (Captain) at Madurai on 14 September 2005. The party was led by its founder until 14 December 2023 from its date of founding. From 14 December 2023, the DMDK is led by Vijayakant's wife Premallatha Vijayakant as general secretary of the party. The party served as the main opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 27 May 2011 to 21 February 2016. The headquarters of the party is located at Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, Koyambedu, Chennai.
Ethirajulu Vajjaravelu or E. V. Velu is an Indian politician who has been serving as the Minister of Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports in the M. K. Stalin ministry of the state of Tamil Nadu since 2021. He formerly served as the Minister for Food in the state under M. Karunanidhi (2006–2011).
The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganisation of Madras State in 1956. Indian National Congress and its leader, K. Kamaraj won the election and defeated their rival, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954, due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari, for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam, the leadership of Congress was contested between K. Kamaraj, and C. Subramaniam. Eventually, K. Kamaraj, won the support of the party, was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move, he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam, to his cabinet, allowing great unity amongst the Congress that ruled the state of Madras, for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders M. Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan win their first MLA seats in the legislative assembly.

Kaveripattinam Poongavanam Munusamy is an Indian politician and deputy general secretary of AIADMK and incumbent member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Krishnagiri Constituency. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Maduranthakam constituency as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in 1971, 1977, and 1984. He was also Chengalpattu District secretary for Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from 1971 to 1993. He was a close associate of Dravida Munetra Kazhagam chief Thiru M.Karunanidhi and he was a member of the Dravida Munetra Kazhagam Trust. He fought hard and won the 1984 Assembly elections against 90 people, then protested against Hindi imposition, burnt the copy of the Constitution of India. He was jailed for 45 days and was disqualified from Tamil Nadu Legislative assembly. He died on June 2, 2005.

Ponmozhi and MK Stalin; And now the sons C. V. M. P. Ezhilarasan and Udhayanithi Stalin-the bond they share for three generations is widely known in the political circle.
