MS Excelsior Neptune (originally, the Feliks Dzerzhinskiy) was an ocean liner owned by the Soviet Union's Black Sea Shipping Company. She was built in 1958 by VEB Mathias-Thesen Werft, Wismar, East Germany, as one of the Mikhail Kalinin series of ships. It was named after Felix Dzerzhinsky, a Soviet statesman and founder of the Soviet secret police (Cheka).

The Feliks Dzerzhinskiy entered regular service with the Black Sea Shipping between Odessa and Alexandria in 1958, and after 1970 she was used by the Far East Shipping between Vladivostok and Kamchatka, and from Nakhodka to Yokohama and Hong Kong. In the late 1970s she was also used by the CTC Line for Pacific Ocean cruises out of Fremantle and Sydney. [6]

In 1988 she was renamed Excelsior Neptune, and was sold to Chinese interests in 1992. It was planned to rebuild her as a cruise ship, along with her sister ship Excelsior Mercury (formerly the Mariya Ulyanova), but she sank in January 1993 while being towed from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. [7]

<i>Belorussiya</i>-class cruiseferry

The Belorussiya-class cruiseferries were built by Wärtsilä Turku Shipyard, Finland in 1975–1976 for the Black Sea Shipping Company, Soviet Union. The five ships in the class were originally used in ferry service around the Black Sea. During the 1980s all ships in the class were rebuilt into cruise ships. During the end of the 1990s all ships in the class were sold to other operators. As of 2008, at least four ships in this class were in service. The effects of the new SOLAS regulations that came into effect in 2010 remain unknown.

MS Astor was a cruise ship that most recently sailed for Cruise & Maritime Voyages' Transocean Tours subsidiary, under which she operated voyages to Europe, South Africa, and Australia.

MS <i>Golden Princess</i>

MS Golden Princess was a casino cruise ship owned by Eurasia International, operated on short casino cruises out of Hong Kong. She was built in 1967 by the Wärtsilä Hietalahti shipyard in Helsinki, Finland as Finlandia for the Finland Steamship Company. In 1975 she was sold to Finnlines, who converted her into the cruise ship Finnstar in 1978. In 1982 she entered service for Pearl Cruises as Pearl of Scandinavia. In 1988 she was renamed Ocean Pearl. In 1994 she entered service with Croisières Paquet as Pearl. Between 1995 and 1998 she sailed for Costa Cruises as Costa Playa. In 1998-1999 she sailed as Oriental Pearl for Mega Wave International, and in 1999-2000 as Joy Wave for Costa Cruises. In 2000 she was sold to Eurasia International and entered service under the name Golden Princess. In 2009 she was sold for scrap to China.

<i>Mikhail Frunze</i> (ship)

The Mikhail Frunze is a Valerian Kuybyshev-class Soviet/Russian river cruise ship, cruising in the Volga – Kama – Neva basin. The ship was built by Slovenské Lodenice at their shipyard in Komárno, Czechoslovakia, and entered service in 1980. At 4,050 tonnes, Mikhail Frunze is one of the biggest river cruise ships currently in service with Vodohod. Her sister ships are Valerian Kuybyshev, Fyodor Shalyapin, Feliks Dzerzhinskiy, Sergey Kuchkin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Aleksandr Suvorov, Semyon Budyonnyy and Georgiy Zhukov. Her home port is currently Nizhny Novgorod.

<i>Ivan Franko</i>-class passenger ship

The Ivan Franko-class passenger ship was a class of Soviet ocean liners and cruise ships, operated by the Baltic State Shipping Company (BGMP) and Black Sea Shipping Company . The five Soviet ships Ivan Franko, Aleksandr Pushkin, Taras Shevchenko, Shota Rustaveli and Mikhail Lermontov were constructed in 1963–1972 by the East German company VEB Mathias-Thesen Werft, in Wismar. The class was named after its lead ship, which took its name from the Ukrainian poet Ivan Franko. The last remaining vessel, the Aleksandr Pushkin – last known as Marco Polo, was retired in 2020 and beached in Alang, India for scrapping on January 13, 2021.

The Mikhail Kalinin-class passenger ship is a class of Soviet ocean liners and cruise ships, operated by the Baltic State Shipping Company (BGMP), Far East Shipping Company (FESCO) and Black Sea Shipping Company. The 19 Soviet ships of this class were constructed in 1958–1964 by the East German company VEB Mathias-Thesen Werft, in Wismar. The class was named after the first ship in the class Mikhail Kalinin, which in her turn was named after the nominal head of state of Russia and later of the Soviet Union Mikhail Kalinin.

The Mikhail Kalinin, named after the nominal head of state of Russia and later of the Soviet Union Mikhail Kalinin, was scrapped in 1994 in Alang, India.

Lloyd Werft Wismar is a German shipbuilding company, headquartered in Wismar. Since June 1, 1990 it has been part of the Deutschen Maschinen- und Schiffbau AG, 2009–2016 was part of the Nordic Yards Holding GmbH, and since 2016 is part of the Lloyd Werft Group.

MS <i>Siritara Ocean Queen</i>

MS Siritara Ocean Queen was a cruise ship owned since 2006 by Siritara Enterprise in Thailand. She was built in 1964 by VEB Mathias-Thesen Werft, Wismar, East Germany as Bashkiriya for the Soviet Union's Black Sea Shipping Company. It was named after an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the former Soviet Union Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. The ship capsized 10 October 2006 and was a total loss. She was later scrapped on site.

The Valerian Kuybyshev was a Valerian Kuybyshev-class Soviet/Russian river cruise ship, cruising in the Volga – Neva basin. The ship was built by Slovenské Lodenice at their shipyard in Komárno, Czechoslovakia and entered service in 1976. She was named after prominent Soviet politician Valerian Kuybyshev. At 3,950 tonnes, Valerian Kuybyshev was one of the world's biggest river cruise ships. Her sister ships are Feliks Dzerzhinskiy, Mikhail Frunze, Fyodor Shalyapin, Sergey Kuchkin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Aleksandr Suvorov, Semyon Budyonnyy and Georgiy Zhukov. Valerian Kuybyshev is currently operated by Vodohod, the biggest Russian river cruise line.

The Georgiy Zhukov is a Valerian Kuybyshev-class Soviet/Russian river cruise ship, cruising in the Volga basin. The ship was built by Slovenské Lodenice at their shipyard in Komárno, Czechoslovakia, and entered service in 1983. At 4,050 tonnes, Georgiy Zhukov is one of the world's biggest river cruise ships. Her sister ships are Valerian Kuybyshev, Fyodor Shalyapin, Feliks Dzerzhinskiy, Sergey Kuchkin, Mikhail Frunze, Mstislav Rostropovich, Aleksandr Suvorov and Semyon Budyonnyy. Georgiy Zhukov is currently owned and operated by Vodohod, a Russian river cruise line. Her home port is currently Nizhny Novgorod. Captain of the Georgiy Zhukov (2014) is Viktor Prigorshnev.

The capture of the tanker Tuapse occurred on 23 June 1954, when a civilian Soviet ship was captured and confiscated by the Republic of China Navy in the high seas near the Philippines and the sailors were detained in Taiwan for various periods with 3 deaths, until the last 4 were released in 1988.
