MV Stena Vinga is a roll-on/roll-off ferry operated by DFDS Seaways on charter from Stena Line on routes connecting Jersey in the Channel Islands to Portsmouth, England and Saint-Malo, France.
MV Stena Vinga was built in the style of Van der Giessen de Noord's vessels, alongside her sister ship Dueodde, now named Islander. She was first named Hammerodde by Bornholmstrafikken. Since then, she has seen service with Stena Line as Stena Vinga in Sweden, Germany, Latvia and France, before being chartered to AML and now to DFDS Seaways [2] .
The vessel will be deployed on Jersey to Portsmouth and St Malo routes for DFDS Seaways from March 2025. [3]
Stena Vinga entered service with Bornholmstrafikken in 2005 as MV Hammerodde. She operated routes linking Koge, Ronne and Ystad, also completing some services between Ronne and Sassnitz [4] . After this, in 2010 she was refit and rebuilt at STX Europe, Helsinki adding an additional freight deck aft of her superstructure. As well as, a 5m long ducktail sponson and new rudders and propellers. [5] She was sold to Stena Line in 2017, before starting operations in September 2018. [6]
In 2017, the vessel was sold to Stena RoRo and chartered to Danske Færger until Autumn 2018 where she entered service with Stena Line [7] and was renamed MV Stena Vinga. She first connected Gothenburg to Frederikshavn, Travemunde and Liepaja, Gdynia and Karlskrona. In 2020 she covered for the Stena Horizon which was released for cover on the Holyhead to Dublin route. On March 21st 2021 she returned to serve the Gothenburg to Frederikshavn route and had the last service on March 26th 2021. She serviced Travemunde and Liepaja for 4 months before switching to different routes every few months. From December 18th 2022 to January 26th 2023, she covered for Stena Danica whilst it was being refitted. On March 1st 2023 she covered for Stena Germanica until March 17th 2023. In June 2023, it is believed that she was chartered to AML. After coming back from her charter, she covered many routes for other ships such as Stena Danica again and Stena Nautica , Stena Jutlandica , Skane and Stena Baltica . [8]
On June 14th 2023, she arrived in Algeciras for trials there and in Tanger Med. From June 23rd 2023, AML deployed her on a route from Algeciras to Tanger Med until mid August 2023. [9]
On December 16th after DFDS Seaways won Jersey's ferry bid tender, [10] they announced they would charter the Stena Vinga. [11] She was then sent to Oresund Drydocks in Landskrona to be refitted in January 2025. In early March 2025, she travelled to Portsmouth for trials. On March 18th 2025, she travelled to St Helier Harbour to complete berthing trials. As of March 28th 2025, she is now on a route connecting Portsmouth to Jersey and sometimes onwards to St Malo. [12]

She used to operate many routes for Stena Line and before that operated for Bornholmstrafikken in 2005 as MV Hammerodde. She operated routes linking Koge, Ronne and Ystad. [8]
The roll-on/roll-off ferry has an overall length of 129.9 meters, a beam of 23.4 m and a draft of 5.6 m, the gross tonnage amounts 14,551 GT. The machinery consists of two MaK 9M32 diesel 8640 kW (38,500 HP) allowing a maximum service speed of 18.5 knots (34.3 km/h; 21.3 mph). 400 passengers and 200 cars can be accommodated on board. [5]
The only issue seen by the Stena Vinga during her service has been when she left Koge in March 2015, she went off course and damaged one of her propellers. She was escorted back to Koge for an underwater examination and travelled to Landskrona for repairs. [8]
