The make up for Jaggesh's grandmother getup in the film took four hours to apply. [4] [5] [6] Newcomer Laila Patel from Mumbai was cast as the heroine. [7] [8] The film was produced by Jaggesh and his wife, Parimala, and was written by his son Gururaj. [7] [4] Shakti Kapoor and Jaggesh's son, Yathiraj, play supporting roles. [7]

Release

Chitraloka gave a favourable review and opined that "Director Singeetham Srinivasarao has shown his diligence and proves that comedy is his hot favorite" and stated that "Jaggesh's effort and his dialogue delivery is a treat to watch". [10] Viggy opined that "Jaggesh as Doddamma has done an excellent job" and called the film "A sheer pleasure for Jaggesh fans". [11]

Box office

Despite the positive reviews and a good run at the box office, the film was a box office failure and lost seventy five lakhs due to the film's high budget. [6] [7] Jaggesh had to sell his house to compensate for the loss. [12] [13] Jaggesh cites the reason for the film's failure is that the film released at the "wrong time". [5] Despite the film's failure, Jaggesh garnered appreciation for his role. [14]

Jaggesh is an Indian politician, actor, director and producer, who mainly works in the Kannada film industry. He debuted in Ibbani Karagithu (1983) before appearing in Banda Nanna Ganda, Tharle Nan Maga, Super Nan Maga, Server Somanna, Bevu Bella, Mata, Eddelu Manjunatha, Vaastu Prakaara and Neer Dose.

Puneeth Rajkumar Indian Kannada actor and producer

Puneeth Rajkumar, colloquially known as Appu, was an Indian actor, playback singer, television presenter, and producer who worked primarily in Kannada cinema. He was a lead actor in 29 films; as a child, he appeared in many films. His performances in Vasantha Geetha (1980), Bhagyavantha (1981), Chalisuva Modagalu (1982), Eradu Nakshatragalu (1983), Bhakta Prahaladha, Yarivanu and Bettada Hoovu (1985) were praised. He won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role of Ramu in Bettada Hoovu. He also won Karnataka State Award Best Child artist for Chalisuva Modagalu and Eradu Nakshatragalu. Puneeth's first lead role was in 2002's Appu. Karnataka Government has announced State's highest civilian award Karnataka Ratna for Puneeth, posthumously, in November 2021.

The Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award, instituted in 2011 for the 2008–09 Karnataka State Film Awards is an award given by the government of Karnataka to long-serving film personalities in Kannada cinema. The award previously called Lifetime Contribution to Kannada Cinema Award, was named Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award in honour of Vishnuvardhan, one of Kannada cinema's actors, after his demise in 2009. The award carries a purse of ₹200,000 and a gold-plated plaque.
