On 5 October 2022 at 8 PM (IST), on the day of Vijaya Dashami, suddenly a flood came in the Mal river in Malbazar, West Bengal, India during the immersion during Durga Puja. [1] [2]

Background

On 5 October 2022 at 8 PM (IST), suddenly a flood came in the Mal river in Malbazar, West Bengal, India during the immersion during Durga Puja. Following which, 8 people died and many people injured. Also, some of the people went missing after the accident.

Aftermath

Following the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences on the death of people and announced the ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to the family of the people who died. [3] [4]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bikaner–Guwahati Express derailment</span> Train derailment in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal

On 13 January 2022, the Bikaner–Guwahati Express train derailed near Domohani, Maynaguri, Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. Nine people were killed and 50 people were injured. This was the first major train derailment in 2022, and the first in India since the Seemanchal Express derailment in Bihar in February 2019.

On 2 October 2022, a fire occurred at a Durga Puja pandal in Narthuwa village in Bhadohi district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Seventeen people died and at least 75 people were injured in the incident. The investigation revealed that the decorative fiber polythene sheets had caught fire due to heat caused by halogen lights. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM (IST), during the celebration of Saptami or the seventh day of Navaratri, an annual Hindu festival observed in honour of the Hindu goddess Durga. Around 150 to 300 people or more were present at the venue when the incident took place.
