Malaysian Maritime Academy (Malay : Akademi Laut Malaysia, MMA or ALAM) is a maritime training academy with a 30 hectares campus located in Kuala Sungai Baru, Malacca, Malaysia which provides training for seagoing personnel. [1] It was established in 1976 by MISC Berhad, International Shipping Carriers Hong Kong and the Malaysian Ministry of Transport as the MATES Foundation (Malaysian Training and Education for Seamen). In the beginning, only male cadets are enrolled into the academy.
Malaysian Maritime Academy was only known by its present name, when it was upgraded to an academy with the award of government charter by prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad in 1981 and was subsequently placed under the supervision of the Implementation and Coordination unit, Prime Minister's Department. In 1997, it was privatised to Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn. Bhd. (MMASB), a consortium comprising MISC Berhad, Petronas (Petroliam Nasional Berhad), Penang Shipbuilding and Construction Sdn. Bhd. and Klang Port Management Sdn. Bhd. Malaysian Maritime Academy only became fully owned by MISC Berhad in 2006 and began accepting female cadets the same year. [2]
Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh bin Tengku Mohd Hamzah is a Malaysian politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gua Musang from August 1986 to November 2022 and for Ulu Kelantan from August 1974 to August 1986. KA Tun Azizan is an auxiliary ship currently in service with Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). She was sponsored by local company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and transferred from Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC) to the RMN. Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) then changes and modifies a used cargo vessel to be used as a forward operation base operated by the Royal Malaysian Navy in Sulu Sea, Lahad Datu, Sabah to support the operation of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM). Since its operation in July 2015, KA Tun Azizan has operated under the Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC) with the appointment of commanding officers absorbed as members of the RMN Volunteer Reserve Team.

He served as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) from March 2021 to his resignation and political appointments in December 2023.
