On 19 May 2024, a helicopter carrying Rahmati — alongside President Ebrahim Raisi, foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and representative of the Supreme Leader in East Azerbaijan Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashemcrashed in Varazqan in East Azerbaijan province. His death was later confirmed. [9] [10]

On 19 May 2024, an Iranian Air Force helicopter crashed near the village of Uzi, East Azerbaijan, Iran, killing President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Governor-General of East Azerbaijan Malek Rahmati, representative of the supreme leader in East Azerbaijan Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the head of the president's security team, and three flight crew. It was en route in a convoy of three from the Giz Galasi Dam to Tabriz.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Government of Mohammad Mokhber</span> Interim government of Iran in 2024

Mohammad Mokhber was the acting President of Iran. He served his term as acting president and led an interim government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. On 19 May 2024, after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Mokhber assumed the role and was confirmed in his position by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on 20 May. The cabinet of Mokhber was inherited from the cabinet of Ebrahim Raisi. The main responsibility of this government was holding a new presidential election which the first round was held on 28 June 2024 and the second round on 5 July 2024.
