Malval (French pronunciation: [malval] ; Limousin: Malaval) is a former commune in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in central France. On 1 January 2019, it was merged into the new commune Linard-Malval. [2]
A very small farming village, situated by the banks of the Petite Creuse river, some 12 miles (19 km) north of Guéret at the junction of the D56 and the D6 roads.

Creuse is a department in central France named after the river Creuse. After Lozère, it is the second least populated department in France. It is bordered by Indre and Cher to the north, Allier and Puy-de-Dôme to the east, Corrèze to the south, and Haute-Vienne to the west. The Petite Creuse is a 95.2 km (59.2 mi) long river in Allier and Creuse departments, in central France. Its source is at Treignat, 2.5 km (1.6 mi) southeast of the village. It is a left tributary of the Creuse into which it flows at Fresselines. The river is dammed at several locations creating valley lakes that are extensively used for recreation, such as fishing, boating and swimming. The dams are used to generate electricity and to supply water treatment plants providing drinking water to local communities.
The Communauté de communes Portes de la Creuse en Marche is a communauté de communes, an intercommunal structure, in the Creuse department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, central France. It was created in January 2014 by the merger of the former communautés de communes Marche Avenir and Deux Vallées and part of Petite Creuse. Its area is 345.3 km2, and its population was 6,635 in 2018. Its seat is in Genouillac.
