Dr. Manjit Singh (born 18 November 1958) is a scientist with the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) under the Ministry of Defence (India). He is currently serving as the Director of Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh. [1]
Dr. Manjit Singh has done his M.Sc. from Panjab University in 1982. He has done his Doctrait[ clarification needed ] in 2001 in "Metals Under High Stress and Strain Rates".
Dr. Manjit Singh specializes in the fields of Detonics of High Explosives, High Pressure Physics in Dynamic Shock Wave Loading and Materials Under High Stress and Strain Rates. Currently he is the head of Quality Management Group, Shock & Detonics Division and Gun Group.
He also has experience in the field of Missiles, missile War-heads and strategic devices.
He played a key role in the success of Pokhran-II.
He is an active member of the Armament Research Board of India. [2] He is also an active member of the High Energy Materials Society of India. [3] He has served on the National Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Optics & Photonics (ICOP-2009). [4]
Dr. Manjit Singh is also the Chairman of the DRDO North Zone Sports Council. [5]

Smiling Buddha was the code name of India's first successful nuclear weapon test on 18 May 1974. The nuclear fission type bomb was detonated in the Pokhran Test Range of the Indian Army in Rajasthan. As per the United States military intelligence, the operation was named as Happy Krishna. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the test as a peaceful nuclear explosion.
The Arjun is a third generation main battle tank developed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), for the Indian Army. The tank is named after Arjuna, the archer prince who is the main protagonist of the Indian epic poem Mahabharata. Design work began in 1986 and was finished in 1996. NASM–SR or Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Short Range is a helicopter launched anti-ship missile being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation for the Indian Navy. It is the first indigenous air launched anti-ship cruise missile developed for the Indian Navy. The missile is manufactured by Adani Defence & Aerospace.
Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Medium Range (NASM–MR) or Medium Range Anti-Ship Missiles (MRAShM) is an all-weather, over-the-horizon anti-ship cruise missile being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation for the Indian Navy for use against small to medium sized warships like frigates, corvettes, and destroyers. DRDO has been given approval to develop an indigenously developed the anti-ship missile. The NASM-MR will be of the same class as of Harpoon missile which is of US origin.
