Marc Brown (born July 5, 1969) is an American basketball coach and retired professional player. He is currently head basketball coach at New Jersey City University. He played professionally for 15 years following an All-American college career at Siena College.

College career

Brown, a 5-foot-11-inch (1.80 m) point guard, played basketball at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, graduating in 1987, and played collegiately at Siena. As a sophomore, Brown led Siena to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 1989 then led the 14th-seeded Saints to a first round upset over 3 seed Stanford. Brown scored 32 points, handed out 6 assists, and hit the winning free throws in the 80–78 victory.^[1] He was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press that year.^[2]

Brown ended up as a four-time first team All-Conference performer in the ECAC North and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and was named the conference's player of the year as a senior in 1991. He also repeated as an AP honorable mention All-American that season. Brown ended his Siena career as the school's leading scorer (2,284 career points),assists (796), and fourth in steals (221). He was elected to the school's athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.^[2]

Professional career

Brown went undrafted in the 1991 NBA draft, and embarked on a 15-year professional career taking him to Portugal, France, Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico. He also played in the Continental Basketball Association for the Albany Patroons and Fort Wayne Fury.^[2]

Coaching career

After retiring from basketball in 2007, Marc Brown followed his father Charles Brown as head coach at New Jersey City University on an interim basis. In 2010, Brown was named head coach of the Knights.^[3] In the 2010–11 season Brown lead New Jersey City University to their 18th NCAA Division III tournament, guiding the team to a victory over Montclair State University in the conference championship game. The victory guided NJCU to their 12th New Jersey Athletic Conference title.

Richard F. Byrd is a retired American college basketball coach who served as the head coach of the Belmont Bruins men's basketball team from 1986-2019. On February 16, 2017, with the Bruins win over Eastern Kentucky, Byrd marked his 750th career win, 658 with Belmont. He retired after the 2018-2019 season with 805 wins, which ranks twelfth all-time among NCAA Division I men's basketball coaches.

The Murray State Racers men's basketball program represents Murray State University in intercollegiate men's basketball. Murray State completed a 74-season run in the Ohio Valley Conference, a part of Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), in 2021–22, and moved to the Missouri Valley Conference on July 1, 2022. The Racers have played home games at the CFSB Center on their campus in Murray, Kentucky since 1998. Murray State made its 18th appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2022. Five times the Racers advanced in the tournament, most recently by defeating the University of San Francisco in 2022. In 1988, Murray State defeated NC State in the first round but lost to eventual national champion Kansas in the second round. Sorrentine is widely known from his collegiate playing career at Vermont, hitting a three-pointer with 1:10 remaining to help the 13-seed Catamounts defeat fourth-seeded Syracuse 60–57 in overtime in the first round of the 2005 NCAA tournament for the school's first-ever tournament win.

Jamion Christian is an American college basketball coach, who was most recently the head coach of the George Washington Colonials men's basketball team. He previously was the head coach at Siena and Mount St. Mary's.

The 2019–20 Rider Broncs men's basketball team represented Rider University in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Broncs, led by 8th-year head coach Kevin Baggett, played their home games at the Alumni Gymnasium in Lawrenceville, New Jersey as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 18–12 overall, 12–8 in MAAC play to finish in a tie for third place. Before they could face #6 seeded Niagara in the MAAC tournament quarterfinals, all postseason tournaments were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2019–20 Siena Saints men's basketball team represented Siena College in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Saints, led by first-year head coach Carmen Maciariello, played their home games at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 20–10 overall, 15–5 in MAAC play to finish in first place. As the #1 seed in the MAAC tournament, they defeated #9 seed Manhattan 63–49 in the quarterfinals. However, the semifinals and championship game, and all postseason tournaments, were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2019–20 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's basketball season began with practices in October 2019, followed by the start of the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season on November 1st. Conference play started in January and concluded March 11, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This season was the 39th season of MAAC basketball.
