The 1904 Summer Olympics were an international multi-sport event held in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, from 1 July to 23 November 1904. Many events were conducted at what is now known as Francis Field on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis. This was the first time that the Olympic Games were held outside Europe.
Luxembourg competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from 13–28 February 1988. It had been 52 years since the last time the nation had participated in the Winter Olympic Games, and Calgary was only their third appearance at a Winter Olympics in history. Vasile Andrei is a retired heavyweight wrestler from Romania. He competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1980, 1984 and 1988 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1980 and a gold medal in 1984. At the 1984 Olympics he also placed sixth in freestyle wrestling, and in 1980 and 1988 served as flag bearer for Romania at the opening ceremony. At the world and European championships he won six medals in Greco-Roman wrestling between 1979 and 1987.
Robert John Steckle was a Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestler from Canada who competed in three consecutive summer Olympic Games, starting in 1952. He carried the Canadian flag at the opening ceremonies of the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, the only Canadian wrestler ever to do so. He was born in Kitchener, Ontario.
Mark Berger is a Ukrainian-born Canadian judoka. He won the gold medal in the men's heavyweight judo event at the 1983 Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He also competed in sambo, winning silver at the 1988 World Championships.
Nikolay Fyodorovich Balboshin is a retired Soviet heavyweight Greco-Roman wrestler. He rarely lost a bout in the 1970s, winning five world titles, six European titles, and an Olympics gold medal in 1976. At the 1976 Olympics he pinned all his five opponents, in total spending less than 17 minutes on the mat. He was the Soviet flag bearer and a clear favorite at the Moscow Olympics, but injured an Achilles tendon in the second bout and withdrew from the tournament. He recovered by 1984, when he won his last Soviet title and was selected for the 1984 Games, but could not compete because of the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott by the Soviet Union. He retired from competitions to become a wrestling coach n Moscow. In 2006 he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Abdurrahim Kuzu is a Turkish and American former Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics. Kuzu won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1979 World Wrestling Championships. He emigrated to the United States in the late 1970s. Kuzu competed for the University of Nebraska Omaha in college.
Jarmo Erkki Övermark is a Finnish former wrestler who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics, in the 1980 Summer Olympics, and in the 1984 Summer Olympics. His best Olympic finish was in the 1984 Summer Games, where he placed fifth in the men's middleweight event.
Shin'ichi Yumoto is a Japanese freestyle wrestler. He competed in the 2009 World Wrestling Championships, reaching the round of 16. He competed in the 2011 World Wrestling Championships, reaching the quarterfinals. He competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he lost to Vladimer Khinchegashvili in the semi-final. In the repechage, he defeated Radoslav Velikov in his bronze medal match.
Arayik Gevorgyan is a retired Armenian Freestyle wrestler. He is an Armenian Champion, European Champion, and three-time World Champion. Gevorgyan was awarded the Master of Sports of the USSR, International Class title in 1991 and the Honored Master of Sports of Armenia title in 1995.
Oleksandr Stepanovych Chernetskyi is an amateur Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler, who wrestled for the men's super heavyweight category.
Douglas "Doug" Yeats is a Canadian former wrestler who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics, in the 1984 Summer Olympics, in the 1988 Summer Olympics, and in the 1992 Summer Olympics. He qualified for the Olympics in 1980; however, Canada boycotted. Yeats was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Garry Kallos is a Canadian former wrestler who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics and won five gold medals at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, and sambo competitor who won a gold medal at the Pan American Games.
Lawrence Holmes is a Canadian former wrestler who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics and in the 1988 Summer Olympics. He is the brother of Gary Holmes.
Clark Davis is a Canadian former wrestler who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics and in the 1988 Summer Olympics.
