Marshall County High School is a secondary school in the Draffenville area of unincorporated Marshall County, Kentucky, United States, near Benton. [2]

History

Marshall County High School was incorporated in 1974 as a merger of North Marshall High School, Benton High School, and South Marshall High School which all became junior high schools (grades 7–9). The school first consisted of grades 10–12. The first Graduating class was May 1975. In 1988, the high school took on 9th grade.. The county junior high schools became middle schools and took on 6th grade from the elementary schools.

Marshall County High School also had a Vocational Education School for adults and students alike which opened a year earlier in 1973. It is now known as Marshall County Technology Center which houses its various vocational trades for the students.

2018 Shooting

On January 23, 2018, it became the site of the largest high school shooting in Kentucky. Sixteen people were shot, two of them were fatally wounded. [3] Four others were injured as they tried to flee the school. It occurred just thirty-two miles away from Heath High School, where three girls were shot and killed in 1997. [3]

Marshall County Hoop Fest

Marshall County High School is the site of a national invitational preparatory basketball showcase called Marshall County Hoop Fest. The event, held in Reed Condor Gymnasium, hosts nationally ranked teams in a weekend event open to the public. [6] Players like Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, and Josh Smith have all played in the event over the years. [7]

Albert P. Brewer Area Vocational and High School is part of the Morgan County School System. The school is in the foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains near Florette, Alabama. The grounds are approximately 80 acres. Its mascot is the Patriot, and its colors are red, white, and blue. Daniel Matthew Langhi is an American former professional basketball player. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was raised in the small western Kentucky town of Benton. In addition to his high school basketball career, where he finish as the runner-up for Kentucky's prestigious "Mr. Basketball" award, Langhi won regional titles as a member of Marshall County's soccer teams. After growing six inches during his sophomore year of high school, he joined is other brother Bob Langhi in playing college basketball, signing to play college basketball at Vanderbilt, and was drafted 31st overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft. Langhi played for the Houston Rockets, the Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA.

Neal F. Simeon Career Academy, locally known simply as Simeon, is a public four-year vocational high school located in the Chatham area on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Simeon is a part of the Chicago Public Schools district. Opened in 1949, The school is named for African-American Chicago Public Schools educator and administrator Neal Ferdinand Simeon.

Benton Central Junior-Senior High School is the only high school in Benton County, Indiana, and is located five miles southeast of Fowler in Atkinson. The school mascot is the Bison. BC was a 1960s consolidation of Ambia, Boswell, Earl Park, Fowler, Freeland Park, Montmorenci, Pine Township, Oxford, Otterbein, and Wadena schools.
