Martha Shoffner is the former state treasurer of Arkansas. A Democrat,she was first elected in 2006, [2] taking office in January 2007. She was re-elected in 2010 but resigned from office in 2013. [3] [4]
Shoffner was born and raised in Jackson County. [2] Born to a farmer and a school teacher,she graduated from Newport High School and attended Memphis State University and Arkansas State University. She started working in advertising [2] and is also a licensed real estate agent.
Shoffner was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1996. [5]
After being term limited,she was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for the state auditor. [6] In 2005,Shoffner announced her candidacy for State Treasurer on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse. After being outspent almost 3-to-1[ citation needed ] Shoffner was elected to the office in 2006. [2]
On May 18,2013,the FBI arrested Shoffner on a charge of extortion. [7] Following her release on bail,Shoffner resigned as Arkansas State Treasurer on May 21,2013. [1]
She was subsequently indicted on June 5,2013,by a Federal Grand Jury on six counts of extortion under color of official right,one count of attempted extortion under color of official right,and seven counts of receipt of a bribe by an agent of a state government receiving federal funds. [8] She was convicted of all counts on March 11,2014,by a jury of seven women and five men. [9] On August 28,2015,she was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in federal prison. [10]
Arenda Iris Troutman is an American former politician who ran as a member of the Democratic Party. Troutman served as alderman of Chicago,Illinois 20th Ward from April 1990 until February 2007. Troutman was appointed to her position by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley,to fill the ward's vacancy after the death of alderman Ernest Jones. Troutman was subsequently re-elected in 1991,1995,1999,and 2003.

Operation Tennessee Waltz was a sting operation set up by federal and state law enforcement agents,including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). The operation led to the arrest of seven Tennessee state lawmakers and two men identified as "bagmen" in the indictment on the morning of May 26,2005,on bribery charges. The FBI and TBI followed these arrests with an additional arrest of two county commissioners,one from Hamilton County,and the other a member of the prominent Hooks family of Memphis. Investigators also arrested a former county administrator.
Jack Bruce Johnson is a former American politician and lawyer. He was a Maryland state's attorney and was,from 2002 to 2010,the county executive of Prince George's County,Maryland. He was elected state's attorney in November 1994 and served as county executive from December 2002 to December 2010. On November 12,2010,both Johnson and his wife were indicted on federal charges as part of a larger political corruption scandal in the county.
Operation Boptrot,also referred to as Boptrot,was an investigation by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into corruption among the Kentucky General Assembly,the Commonwealth's legislature. The operation was highly successful,with the investigation culminating in several indictments in 1992,leading to the conviction of more than a dozen legislators between 1992 and 1995. The investigation also led to reform legislation being passed in 1993.
