The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, was the fifth Olympic Championship, also serving as the tenth World Championships and the 21st European Championships.
Ice hockey tournaments have been staged at the Olympic Games since 1920. The men's tournament was introduced at the 1920 Summer Olympics and was transferred permanently to the Winter Olympic Games program in 1924, in France. The women's tournament was first held at the 1998 Winter Olympics.

Pälvilä also represented Finland in the women’s ice hockey tournaments at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics, and won bronze medals at the IIHF Women's World Championships in 1997 and 2000, and at the 1996 IIHF European Women Championships.
Tuula Katriina Puputti is a Finnish retired ice hockey goaltender and current general manager of the Finnish women's national ice hockey team and women's national under-18 ice hockey team, and Developer of Girls' Hockey for the Finnish Ice Hockey Association.
Katja Hannele Riipi is a Finnish retired ice hockey player and former member of the Finnish national ice hockey team. She won an Olympic bronze medal representing Finland in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 1998 Winter Olympics. A seven-time competitor in the IIHF Women's World Championship, she won bronze medals at the tournaments in 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2004. She also participated in the 1996 IIHF European Women Championships, winning bronze with Finland.
Päivi Anneli Salo is a Finnish retired ice hockey player. She played 73 matches with the Finnish national team, including in the women's tournament at the 1998 Winter Olympics, where she won a bronze medal, and in the women's tournament at the 2002 Winter Olympics. She also competed at the 1997 IIHF World Championship, where she won a bronze medal with the Finnish national team, and at the 2001 IIHF Women's Championship, where Finland placed fourth.

Valentina Bettarini is an Italian ice hockey player and member of the Italian national ice hockey team, currently playing with the EVB Eagles Südtirol in both the European Women's Hockey League (EWHL) and the Italian Hockey League Women (IHLW). She represented Italy in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. Aged 15 years and 228 days, she was the youngest woman to participate in the tournament.
Anna Aleksandrovna Prugova is a Russian ice hockey player and member of the Russian national ice hockey team, currently playing in the Zhenskaya Hockey League (ZhHL) with Agidel Ufa.
The CIS national ice hockey team was an ephemeral national ice hockey team that represented the Commonwealth of Independent States. Essentially the former Soviet team under a different name, the CIS team existed in the few months between the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the formation of new ice hockey federations for the former Soviet states, now independent countries. Most notably, the team competed at the 1992 Winter Olympics as part of the Unified Team, winning the gold medal. However, the International Ice Hockey Federation would later attribute this gold medal to Russia as the successor state. The International Olympic Committee does not attribute that medal to Russia. After the Olympics, the CIS team ceased to exist and was replaced by the Russian team. In the 13 games the CIS played, they won 11 and lost 2.
Thomas Joseph "Red" Martin was an American ice hockey player who competed in the 1964 Winter Olympics. In 1964 he participated with the American ice hockey team in the Winter Olympics tournament. Martin later founded Cramer, a brand experience agency.
George Edward Frederick Rogers was a British ice hockey player. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1928 Winter Olympics.
