Matthew Tonner is an American musician and music producer. [1] [2] [3] [4] Tonner is known as a member of Florida-based indie folk band The 502s, [5] [6] producing and performing multiple instruments on their debut album Because We Had To and follow up album Could It Get Better Than This. [7] [8] He is a former member of the electronic pop duo Destima [9] [10] and of Laney Jones and the Spirits. [11] [12] [13] He is also known for his solo music under the mononym Tonner. [14] [15] [16]

Biography

Tonner was born and raised in Shorewood, Wisconsin. [17] He received a degree in music from Rollins College, where he also met songwriting collaborator Laney Jones. [18] [19] Tonner co-produced and performed on Laney Jones’ 2016 self-titled album, which received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, [20] Paste Magazine, [21] Elmore Magazine [22] and The Lefort Report, the latter of which declared the album "easily one of the Best Albums of 2016". [23]

In 2017, Tonner was recruited by The 502s to produce their full-length album “Because We Had To” and joined their live band shortly afterward. [24] [25] The album received critical acclaim from PopMatters and Cowboys and Indians. [26] [27] Also in 2017, Tonner produced the self-titled full length album for Orlando based folk band Beemo; [28] the lead single from Beemo's album "Did For You" (which featured piano and arrangements from Tonner), later appeared in the 2021 film Red Rocket. [29]

Tonner has continued as an active member of The 502s and produced their follow up album Could It Get Better Than This [30] [31] [32] which included the group’s breakout singles “Magdalene” and “Just A Little While”.

In 2020, Tonner began releasing music under his own name, culminating in the Whispers in the Dark EP. His debut single “Criminal” was co-produced with Jordan Shih of Orlando electronic band SALES. [33] [34] [35]

In early 2022 Tonner released "Suspense", the first single from his upcoming new solo album. [36] In May 2022, Tonner released his next single "Volcano", a song inspired by climate change and the 2021 Gulf of Mexico fires. [37] "Volcano" received critical attention and praise for its melodic songwriting and production. [38] [39] [40] Another single "Castles" was released in July 2022 [41] [42] Tonner also announced the new album will be titled "Walls Come Down", to be released in fall 2022. [43] [44] [45]

The Beach Boys are an American rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Robert Kelly Thomas is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, best known for being the lead singer of the rock band Matchbox Twenty. Thomas also records and performs as a solo artist, with "Lonely No More" released in 2005 becoming his biggest chart success as lead solo artist. Thomas received three Grammy Awards for co-writing and singing on the 1999 hit "Smooth" by Santana, which was also his first song as a featured solo artist.

"Sixteen Tons" is a song written by Merle Travis about a coal miner, based on life in the mines of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. Travis first recorded the song at the Radio Recorders Studio B in Hollywood, California, on August 8, 1946. Cliffie Stone played bass on the recording. It was first released in July 1947 by Capitol on Travis's album Folk Songs of the Hills. The song became a gold record.

The Postmarks were an indie pop band from Pompano Beach, Florida formed in 2004. They released three albums and an EP between 2006 and 2009.

Lương Bích Hữu is a Chinese Vietnamese actress and pop singer. Before working with the Thế Giới Giải Trí, Huu was one of the Nguyễn Productions singers. After working in the company and as member of girl group H.A.T., she returned to Nguyễn Productions and released her first solo album called "Cô gái Trung Hoa", which means "Chinese girl". It was the first solo album of a H.A.T member. In 2008 she briefly joined girl group Ngũ Long Công Chúa. The Studdogs was an American rock band from Orlando, Florida, United States. The band's music contains elements of punk, blues rock, garage rock, and noise rock. The band was formed in 2000 and stayed active until 2005. They released a lot of material, particularly the album, The Gospel According to the Studdogs and the 7" vinyl three-song EP, and gained local and national notoriety. They were featured in several national music magazines, including Magnet and Amplifier. Comparisons were made to the Stooges, Dead Boys, and it was said they sounded "like absolute victory by way of slurring, Rolling Stones-y garage rock from nowhere in particular." Their drunken, abrasive live shows often ended with someone bleeding or being thrown out of the venue. Their live shows were said to be "what Howling Wolf would sound like through a wall of noise and distortion." The band was signed by Orange Recordings in Los Angeles and toured all over the country, sharing bills with the Demolition Doll Rods, Bob Log III, The Fleshtones, and Immortal Lee County Killers and a one-time show with the Suicide Girls Burlesque Tour in Orlando. While in the Studdogs, Rich Evans began promoting concerts under the tag 'Mutiny Productions'. He now heads the independent Florida's Dying label, promoting and releasing material from the Florida-underground music scene. Kyle Justin joined the band on drums in early 2002 to replace Jason, who was moving to Texas. Kyle vacated his position as drummer in 2003 to pursue a music career in Los Angeles. Eric Gebhardt left the band in 2005 to pursue a solo career under the alias Red Mouth.

Destroid were a dubstep supergroup and live dubstep band consisting of Excision, Downlink, and Pendulum drummer KJ Sawka, with collaboration from Space Laces and Ajapai. The band released two singles and two albums on their independent label, Destroid Music. Destroid also performed live music shows.

The 502s are an American indie folk band from Maitland, Florida formed by Ed Isola. Their sound has been described as a "folk orchestra", and as a blend of roots, rock and bluegrass. The 502s' sound is often compared to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, The Avett Brothers, and Old Crow Medicine Show, and the band is noted for their eclectic instrumental arrangements involving banjo, piano, and horns. Their live show received praise for “rambunctious energy, stomping sounds... and charismatic personalities” by Cowboys & Indians.
Initially consisting of Ed Isola and his cousins with a rotating cast of musicians, the band's longest standing consistent lineup includes Matthew Tonner, Joe Capati (saxophone), Sean Froehlich and Nicholas Melashenko with their newest member Graci Phillips joining the band in 2023.
