Background and recording

Mayhem & Miracles was recorded and mixed at The Vault in Hollywood, California and is heavily influenced by Polynesian music. [1] [2] The cover art was designed by Elliot Francis Stewart. [3]

Release and promotion

Mayhem & Miracles was released worldwide as a digital download and compact disc by Dawn Raid Music on 29 June 2012. [4] [5] "Twerk" was released as a single on 4 May 2012. [6] Savage embarked on the Mayhem & Miracles Twerk Tour around New Zealand in October 2012. [7]

Reception

Alistar Wickens of NZ Musician wrote that the album is more mature and deep than Savage's previous work, and less hook-rich. [8] Mayhem & Miracles appeared at number twenty-five on the New Zealand Albums Chart dated 9 July 2012, and fell off the chart the next week. [9] It was nominated for Best Urban/Hip Hop Album at the 2012 New Zealand Music Awards, but lost to Home Brew's self-titled debut album. [10]

"Moonshine" is a song by New Zealand rapper Savage featuring Senegalese-American singer Akon, released in 2005 as the second single from Savage's debut studio album, Moonshine (2005). It was also included on Savage's 2008 album, Savage Island. The song spent seven weeks at the top of the New Zealand singles chart and placed third overall on New Zealand's year-end chart for 2005. In Australia, the song was released on 7 November 2005 and reached number nine on the ARIA Singles Chart.

Dawn Raid Entertainment is a record label based in Papatoetoe, South Auckland, in New Zealand. It has signed many New Zealand Hip-hop and R&B artists such as Savage, Adeaze, Aaradhna, The Deceptikonz, Devolo and Ill Semantics. The founders of Dawn Raid Entertainment announced the closure of the recording label on 19 April 2007 due to liquidation.

<i>The Experiment</i> (Dane Rumble album) 2010 studio album by Dane Rumble

The Experiment is the first solo studio album by New Zealand singer-songwriter Dane Rumble. Released by Rumble Music and Warner Music on 29 March 2010, it follows two years after the split of his hip hop group Fast Crew. Rumble found it difficult to write music for himself, and therefore deviated to the pop rock genre. The Experiment includes elements of dance-pop and pop rap, and lyrically focusses on personal issues. Rumble produced the album with Jonathan Campbell. In July 2010 Rumble embarked on The Edge Winter Jam: The Experiment Tour, which had him perform in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

She recorded her debut album, Thinking Room, in New York City, which was released in 2001. Sione's 2: Unfinished Business is a 2012 New Zealand comedy film and the sequel to the hugely successful 2006 film Sione's Wedding. It was produced by John Barnett and Paul Davis, directed by Simon Bennett, co-produced by South Pacific Pictures and New Zealand Film Commission with music by Don McGlashan and written by Oscar Kightley and James Griffin. The film stars Oscar Kightley, Shimpal Lelisi, Robbie Magasiva, Iaheto Ah Hi, Dave Fane, Teuila Blakely, Madeleine Sami, Pua Magasiva, Mario Gaoa, Nathaniel Lees, David Van Horn, Ayşe Tezel, Dimitri Baveas, Kirk Torrance and Te Kohe Tuhaka. Sione's 2: Unfinished Business was filmed at Auckland, New Zealand. The film was theatrically released on 19 January 2012, by Sony Pictures and was released on DVD and Blu-ray on 13 June 2012, by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film has received mixed reviews from critics and has grossed $723,000 in New Zealand. This was Pua Magasiva's final film appearance seven years before his death on 11 May 2019.

<i>Home Brew</i> (album) 2012 studio album by Home Brew

Home Brew is the first studio album by New Zealand hip-hop group Home Brew. It was released by Young, Gifted & Broke on 1 May 2012. The album draws mainly from the genre of New Zealand hip hop, but is also jazz-influenced. Home Brew was promoted by a 48-hour-long release party and a six-show tour of New Zealand cities. The album was lauded by critics, and won the New Zealand Music Award for Best Urban/Hip Hop Album. It debuted top of the New Zealand Albums Chart.
