The Maypole, Birmingham is a location on the A435 road on the southern edge of Birmingham England, between Druids Heath and Highter's Heath and bordering the Bromsgrove district of Worcestershire. It has a population of 2.260 according to the 2011 Census.
The Maypole is also situated close to major transport links, such as the M42 via the A435 Hollywood bypass. The A435 intersects the M42 at junction 3, close to both the M5 and M40 intersections which lie west and east of junction 3 respectively. The Maypole is located about 7 miles south of Birmingham city centre which is connected by the 50 bus route which runs through the Maypole and terminates adjacent to the Selfridges building in the City Centre. The 50 bus route is one of the most regular bus routes in Europe, arriving at Maypole every 5 minutes. Solihull can be reached by the 49 bus route which runs every 20 minutes and which also runs in the other direction to Cotteridge. Bus route 2 also runs every 20 minutes to Yardley Wood.
The area is served by a number of shops including banks and food outlets. The famous Arsenal striker and commentator Alan Smith attended Hollywood Primary School which is situated on Pickenham Road close to the Emmanuel Church. [1]
Back in 2008, a troubled group of students attending Baverstock Sports College made headlines when they donned patriotic garb on St. George's Day, April 23. Local newspapers reported that the boys, aged 15 were told by staff to have their St George’s Day crosses washed out of their hair and face or be sent home. Anthony Fuller, aged 15, who lives in Druids Heath, said: "We were made to celebrate South Africa Day a couple of weeks ago, but when it comes to our own national day, the school does this. I thought it was bang out of order." His Mom Pauline, 31, said "He just had a red stripe through his hair and a cross on the side of his face. It was just for a bit of fun. There was nothing political about it." [2] The incident came as St George's Day was celebrated in Birmingham with events including a curry festival, a big city walk and a performer dressed as St George handing out flowers.

The A34 is a major road in England. It runs from the A33 and M3 at Winchester in Hampshire, to the A6 and A6042 in Salford, close to Manchester City Centre. It forms a large part of the major trunk route from Southampton, via Oxford, to Birmingham, The Potteries and Manchester. For most of its length, it forms part of the former Winchester–Preston Trunk Road. Improvements to the section of road forming the Newbury Bypass around Newbury were the scene of significant direct action environmental protests in the 1990s. It is 151 miles (243 km) long.
The M42 motorway runs north east from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire to just south west of Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, passing Redditch, Solihull, the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Tamworth on the way, serving the east of the Birmingham metropolitan area. The section between the M40 and junction 4 of the M6 forms – though unsigned as such – a part of Euroroute E05. Northwards beyond junction 11, the route is continued as the A42; the junctions on this section, 12–14, are numbered like a continuation of the motorway, but the road has non-motorway status from here.
Knowle is a large village situated 3 miles (5 km) east-southeast of the town of Solihull, West Midlands, England. Hollywood is a large village predominantly located in the Bromsgrove district of Worcestershire, England, almost contiguous with and to the south of the city of Birmingham. Hollywood was formerly part of Kings Norton, but when Birmingham expanded in 1911, Hollywood remained in Worcestershire. The village now lies across the wards of Hollywood, most of Drakes Cross, the Trueman's Heath polling district area of Trueman's Heath parish ward and, following a 1966 border change, the southern portion of the Birmingham Highter's Heath ward, with all but the latter being located within the civil parish of Wythall. The southern part of the village is also known as Drakes Cross, whilst the eastern part is sometimes referred to as Trueman's Heath. Hockley Heath is a village and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, West Midlands, England. The village is to the south of the West Midlands conurbation, 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Birmingham 5.5 miles (8.9 km) from Solihull town centre and 13 miles (21 km) north of Stratford-upon-Avon. Druids Heath is a large housing estate in southern Birmingham, England, covering the south-west quadrant of the B14 postcode. Primarily known for the large council estate in the Brandwood ward of south Birmingham, the estate is situated on former farmland on the southern edge of Bells Lane, with Druids Lane forming the eastern, southern, and western borders. When first planned, it was known as Bells Lane Phases 1 and 2 and was part of wider postwar plans for the development of the area to accommodate the growing population of the city. Nearby settlements include Kings Heath and Kings Norton; it used to be part of them.

Highter's Heath is a district and ward lying on the southern boundary of the city of Birmingham, UK. The district of Highter's Heath lies immediately east of the Maypole. The first recorded use of the name dates from 1495 as Heyters Heath, however today the name is not one that is particularly in widespread use, indeed only three signposted references to the name exist, when entering the city along Maypole Lane, when entering the city from the bottom of Highters Heath Lane and in Major's Green.
